Definitely Claire. We were down in the basement of the pool earlier, cleaning the filters. Could feel something going on. Went upstairs and felt the same thing. I'm currently doing research on her. Trying to find out her last name and when exactly she died.

There are a couple of locations in centralia/central city listed in "Haunted Illinois" don't remember the name of the author but I think one of the locations was in the vicinity of foundation park.

I lived in a house on Ruth Ann Drive in Centralia, IL when I was young, which was very haunted. Tried several times to look up home owners after we moved out to see if they had any experiences as well. I still think of the old man laying in my bed when I turned over or them throwing my pillows to the floor. etc.

I did not live in a copple mansion out by Jolliff Bridge. It was a small four bedroom home.

Thanks for all your posts. I've read almost every book written by Troy Taylor but all the places I've been like the 7 gates of hell and Violin Annie have been a waste of time.

Girl playing violin in large cemetery in Centrailia. Statue of the little girl playing a violin is her headstone/marker. Statue has been damaged...someone stole her eye's that were made of some kind of gem. I worked in this cemetery 35 years ago. Everyone that worked there back then had a story to tell about her ghost playing violin music and walking around the cemetery. She once stole our tools from a locked shed. After being yelled at by the boss for the missing tools one mornig we found our tools hanging on her statue. Lots of ghost in the old part of that cemetery located way in the back.

the copple mansion was built in the late 1800's. the copples bought this home around 1939. the original owners who built this home owned slaves there were five wells that were first placed here to provide the water needed for all the occupants. slaves built this home with their bare hands and from scratch. the wells also provided water for all the bricks made to build this large 2-story home. the top of house was flat surrounded by iron fencing this is where the women of the house would go to see their men returning from war. They could see much further up on the roof. this spot is known as the widow walk, not knowing if their husband would return. the lady and first occupant of this home found out her husband fathered 2 children with one of the slaves. this made her furious and resentful. so she had someone kill the slave lover and 2 children by throwing them into one of the wells until they died. the bodies were then retrieved and buried. There also is a very ancient cemetery out back. By the way i lived in this area for 43yrs. and today i visited a friend at this location in a seperate pole barn where they live. I went into house and seen whole house and was told this whole story. the house will soon be demolished. love letters was found in the wall from the military husband some written to the slave lover. one letter read To My Dearest sweet pussy. Isnt that just weird. there also at one time was a doctor lived there. his name can be found on the building at the top of the current jd's emporium on broadway st. in centralia.

I really wish they would keep the house standing. My husband and I fell in love with the creepy old structure. My grandfather is James Gelsinger. He lives down the road from the mansion. It is a shame how people go out there because its "creepy and haunted" I do believe that there are probably spirits out there, and alot of unfinished business. But I hope they won't tear it down. We love driving by and admiring its beauty even though people are disrespectful and tear it up!
