You people that are complaining about Tanger in Deer Park are a bunch or wining wussies.
The construction of the mall generated millions of dollars in construction job wages.
The mall will create thousands of jobs. Some will be pay average wages, some will pay low wages.
Would you prefer that the mall was built in another state, and those jobs were not available to Long Islanders?
The mall will generate millions in tax revenue. Would you prefer that the money went somewhere else?
The mall transformed a dump of an area. Would you prefer that it remained a blighted empty lot?
The mall is closer to Queens and Brooklyn than Riverhead, and thus, it is more likely that people will make the trip to Deer Park than Riverhead. Would you prefer that they shop somewhere else?
Tanger is a publicly traded REIT, owned by both individuals and mutual funds. Some of those funds you may hold in your personal or retirement accounts. Would you prefer that the investors not make money?
If you do not like the congestion or traffic, don't shop there.
If you think the jobs exploit the unemployed, don't give them your business.
If you don't like the stores, movie theaters, or malls, don't go there.
And I know all of your comebacks:
"The jobs are low paying"
No one is forcing people to take those jobs.
"The tax revenue will not do anything to lower property taxes"
Take over the school board and fight the wasteful spending.
"The mall will add unnecessary congestion"
As I said, don't go there. Better yet, start a business in the area to capitalize on the additional traffic that did not exist before!
"The politicians are all corrupt and this mall was built despite our objections"
If you think you can do better, run for office under a campaign platform of "no development, higher taxes, and reduced jobs." See how far you go.
What street in Deer Park do you live on as I do? Money talks and **** walks!

They needed expand commack rd.
But the town didn't listen and once again screwed the people that live in Deer Park for more tax revenue for the village of babylon rather than the Town of Babylon or the residents of Deer Park
Should they should have widened Commack to 3 lanes each way? The problem is Pineaire, Grand, etc. Add lanes there, they've been needed a long time anyway.

Why didn't they just widen Pine aire and have it go over the train tracks to the outlet?

Where have all the good times gone? I remember hanging in Deer Park, checking out bands like Strike Twice, Heartless Wager and Teaser at Sparks on Deer Park ave... now it is nothing but a mall.

Good times... I remember getting down and dirty with Heartless Wager and their road crew, in the big blue bus. We drove it into the front of the deli next to Sparks, back out into traffic and then went drove into oncoming traffic for the length of Deer Park ave...

Can you imagine trying to do that now? You would be arrested.

odes not matter what they widened. the roads of LI have always been 10 years or more behind the pop growth. i moved out of there 10 years ago and my propety tax was at 7000 now i'm paying 200. granted we don't have street lights every 50 ft but i can live without them.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Virgo

You're finally at your best after relaxing and catching your breath for a moment. Now that you're rested, it's time to do some of the things you've been putting off lately. Make a sudden appearance to surprise someone from your past. No matter how many new people you meet, don't forget that old friendships are the glue that holds the relationship cycle together. Keep in mind that a present doesn't have to cost much, as long as it comes from the heart.
