Full story: WFMZ 6

I find it amazing that our government places these crazy demands on schools. In your suburban schools these issues are not as prevalent. Kids come from families instead of a single parent and their parents are educated. The students have more expectations placed on them. Many people outside of impoverished areas have no idea what struggles inner-city schools go through. This includes politicians and Presidents who make these rules!

In poverty stricken schools, there are diverse languages and cultures. Many of these people simply do not have the same values, morals, and educational backgrounds. Again, we are trying to teach 2nd and 3rd world people on a 1st world level. Can all people learn? YES! IF THEY ARE WILLING. According to our Gov't, a person can come here not knowing a word of English but they can be proficient by the end of 6th grade.

People need to get their facts straight before blaming schools and teachers. Are there bad teachers? ABSOLUTELY!!! Are they at fault? Yes!
There are far more quality teachers than bad teachers and these teachers are only as good as their weakest link!

I love how the President said this shows that they mean business and teachers and schools need to be held accountable. Also "SCHOOLS ARE FAILING THEIR STUDENTS!!!" In some cases this may be!

ON THE OTHER HAND, WHY AREN'T STUDENTS AND PARENTS HELD ACCOUNTABLE AS WELL? DO THEY GET FIRED, LOSE WELLFARE AND SSI MONEY WHEN THEIR KIDS DON'T PERFORM? HMMM!

Whatever! This country is in trouble anyway.

It wasn't so much tado about everyone in the Central Falls School being fired as it were the teachers refusal to work a few extra hrs a week for $30.00 an hr.

After meeting with their Union they took all concessions off the table and said they would only accept $90.00 an hour for anything over their stated contract.

Gallo, Gist and The Secretary of Education Arne Duncan went to plan E and fired the whole school.

All this in a school district that has a median household income of $22,000.

Pay, Medical, and pension are the same all over.

I think they should take a proactive approach and fire the teachers BEFORE the schools fail.
Seriously how about allowing people who fell "gifted" and want to teach 5 years to do so then bye bye . Get out . Asta la vista . Get that job in the private sector you all tell us about . You know the one you could have had only you felt teaching was a calling and you felt obligated to do the right thing
and
pick our GD pockets
and become GD union members
and put on GD masks
and GD rob us
every GD time
your GD contract comes up .
because you GD care so much
about our GD kids
and then GD complain
at 30 F.....n dollars an hour

You know that job

I feel better now

Thank you for indulging me

The teachers and administrators work the contract and no more . If Medicare fails, SSI,SSD, free lunches and all our legislators will succumb as will all the school districts. This has been a few years in the making. They need soldiers to fight an ever increasing unpopular war. There are no jobs for the soldiers if they bring them home .

Drugs and guns are the gangs weapons of choice to make money. Exemplified by the sale of legal guns to people that haven't broken the law. If you don't have your's get it before they take that away.
