For the same reason they bash anything pro-democratic party. The John Birch Society, is big on controlling news and they also encourage their operatives to join local school boards.

The ungrammatical, misspelled articles are a clue. The lack of critical thinking skills shown by the writers and editors is another. Obviously, the educational system failed the Sun's staff quite badly, and while they can't articulate it well, they do have a vague sense of having been ill-served by their exposure to education.

The school administrators should equally shoulder the blame. There are a lot of good teachers that don't get support.

Probably the parents for any number of reasons, and a system that discriminates.

Yeah it's always some one else's fault. I mean over 50% can't graduate but it must be on the parents, I am sure the teachers were doing a great job. And yeah it's the systems fault a kid can't read and write.

Ya Frank if the parents are uneducated it follows they are unable to help their kids. There's also the language thing and more importantly to my way of thinking discrimination.
To a degree it's the systems fault because teachers are teaching to a test rather than to the students.
Look what the bush administration did for education
No Child Left behind was based on a fraud which quite naturally led to more fraud.

NCLB was a disaster, pretty sure Teddy had his hands in that too, it was championed by both the left and the right.
However, Central Falls is 57% white. So the language barrier is not to blame. I'm sure some parents are to blame. But when more than 1/2 can't graduate it's time to look at the people teaching.
They showed a lot when asked to teach for an extra 25 minutes they said NO. I should say their union said NO. I'm sure some of the teachers do care and did try.

That's why I have mixed feeling about union's. They keep wages competitive but sometimes they carry their perceived mandates to the n'th degree of picayune.

I just looked in E-podunk and Central falls has a higher than average % of minorities than the state and national average. I would guess Portugese. they're even in the % of high school grads but the % with college degrees drops way off. In per/Capita income they are way below state and national averages. I would say it's a depressed area but it wouyld be average down south.
