When did that happen? What are they doing with they gym? Shouldn't they have put an add in the paper for people to come and get the things that they donated or had an auction or something? Rude.

From experience I can say someone had better get their hands on them. When they were doing some remodeling on the old MC school, the graduating classes pictures were sit out by the dumpster until someone accidently found them.

P.S. you'd be surprized what the opportunity center gets...old pictures and trophies, too...

good luck

I did not go to school at CC but feel that their pride over the years has been outstanding. I enjoyed walking around the top of gym and looking at the old photos.
Sorry they are being done away with.

I understand a couple of ladies decided the people from outside the city would not come to this facility if all the TIDE stuff was on display?????I don't care if no one shows up from outside of city.I would think after all these years this RIVALRY thing would be forgotten about.

I know that its all about moving ahead, but Central City itself has thrown away all of its history. FOR WHAT? The courthouse is GONE, downtown is GONE, the schools are GONE. And nothing is getting moved ahead. The other blog on this site is about CC being nasty, lol, its the truth. Who is getting ahead? Not the residents.

I was a CCHS graduate in 1971. I live in another state so I don't know the latest on some things. If the wellness center is still in progress, I don't think destroying the heritage of the high school's basketball, band, or whatever, would make me want to get a wellness center membership for my daughter whose family lives there.

I've been here all my life and was actually excited about getting the wellness center. However, if they can't find the means necessary to leave the heritage alone or find it a safe new home, then I'll find it hard to get a membership for me & my family as well Ed. How sad.

Even though Central City was Bremen's biggest rival I hate to see the old C.C. gym lose it's heritage. I know that there were lots of folks that put a lot into keeping it up over the years. I think they should leave all the Central City things in the gym like they were. If they want to add the other school symbols somewhere else in the Wellness Center that would be fine (if they want it to be "county friendly". BUT THEY SHOULD LEAVE THE CENTRAL CITY STUFF THERE. After all, we are not stupid, we know that it is the CENTRAL CITY GOLDEN TIDE GYM. I think everyone in the county should respect that. I remember Bremen and Central City playing many games in that gym. I think it is wrong to take the history away. I also think anyone that wants to go to the Wellness Center will.

I know Im getting older and I guess change is a part of life. But I can no longer go visit my old grade school, nor the high school I loved and respected. This makes me sad that no one cares enough to even make some type of memorial and to hear things are thrown away like trash. The city council only cares about what can benefit them. Our past help make our future. Maybe the Everly Brothers, in some eyes are the only Central City hertiage worth remembering. Screw them, CCHS live on in my heart. Spend money on a big old slab of elverly brothers and not alloicated for the old golden tide.

I was told that some pictures of my dad, the late Ronnie Gish, were in the gym. I have not been able to go see but if they are I would feel insulted for people to put that stuff to the side like yesterday's garbage. Why can this county not leave well enough alone? To show respect for my parents I will keep my mouth closed but I will say that people do enjoy seeing the history in person, not just being told about it. This county is slowly taking our history from us, maybe if we are lucky we can view aerial photos of CCHS.

The CCHS Memorial Gym was purchased when Rodger Williams was Mayor. The main reason for the purchase was to save all the CCHS history and have a place for display.Know it looks like all history may go into the trash. The old Gym was appraised for $2.5 million when they were trying to raise the funds to build the Wellness Center.Wonder if that figure included the memorabilia?Wonder what that figure was?

I know for a fact that none of the memorabilia was thrown in the trash. The trophies, shadowboxes, etc. are all being stored in what was the old weight room at CCHS. In fact, the front of the gym that housed almost all basketball memorabilia has been updated with new paint and a new tile floor. However, this area will remain as the museum with all of those items on display.

It is a shame what is happening at the old CCHS gym. Why don't the people of this town stand up and DEMAND that the City Council return the gym to it's prior standing. Our history is being distroyed right before our eyes and who's to blame.....WE ARE. We, the citizens of CC allow this to go on. Come to the next city council meeting or call the Mayor or your city councilmember today!
