Man Dies In Fort Smith Jail

A man being held at the Sebastian County jail died after having a seizure, apparently from a heart attack.

I want to know if this man's crime was worth getting the death penalty that he received??

This is not unusual to have happen, in fact the Grimes unit in New Port AR refuses to give many inmates their medications. I for one personally know an inmate at the Grimes unit, they refuse to give him his insulin and he too is a severe diabetic all he can hope for is a long slow death. He has already had a stoke from the lack of getting proper medications.

I wonder who "diagnosed" a "seizure that was the result of a heart attack".
I've never heard of seizures FOLLOWING a heart attack.

Again People it is the fuzz, this jail is unbelievable, they pack em in there and don't care if they kill eachother, well hell if you actually made it to the jail alive is a miracle. The police will sometimes kill you before you can get there. That heart attack/siezure story is just one in a thousand.
Some a cop some time, beat yourself up.
Let's please as citizens get a newsletter, website, meeting started on police watch. There is a group and they film police that have pulled over someone just to keep them safe from a beating by the cop. report cop abuse, they get away with too much! What about the poor mentally challenged kid in the middle of the road? they tried to blame him for being there, man I hate them, crooked bastards.

fudge cops they are all pieces of shiz they are the guys and girls that get picked on in school and they grow up to become a cop in that same town so they can be the ones to fudge with ppl if i had it my way i would take Every single cop in the world and cut them and watch them bleed to death :D

Not trying to rain on your bash-the-cops parade, but since I moved to Fort Smith 6 years ago, I've had many good experiences with the police (in situations where I could have been arrested or had my bike impounded!)... so I hate to just sit here and read someone say "fudge cops they are all pieces of shiz" because it's obviously not true. What is true is that there are cops that are d!cks, who are incompetent, power-hungry @sses, but there are also reasonable ones who actually are out to protect and serve. Just thought I'd point that out.

I seen that happen to in the crawford county jail, they had to call the ambulance for him he was in a coma. Even though he was not being given the special diet he was subpost to be on, I think he was eating things he know he was not subpost to and that is what put him in the coma. Not the lack of medical attention.

That is true, but correct me if I am wrong but we/they are not so much talking about the cops, seems to me this is about the treatment in the jail. I have been in the Fort Smith jail and there are some mean old boys working there. A jailer there once broke a mans neck and killed him by stepping on his neck after beating him to the Flore.
They had no reason to be mad at me I was only there awaiting extradition but when the extradition van was coming to get me they called ahead to let the jailers know they was coming and to get me ready. When I was singing the papers to be released into the extradition co custody I asked about my money and was told I didnt have any , I tried to show the man my money receipt I had gotten that very day at mail call and he told me shut up. I said but sir and was cut off by the man came around the corner he took me into the dressing room to dress me out and started slapping me around , all the wail telling me next time he tells me to shut up I had better listen!

Fact is Fort Smith and Van Buren jails both are not living up to the Federal code of conduct , and sanitation! I have been in and out of jails and Fort Smith and Van Buren jails are by far the worst jails I have ever been in Like you said THEY PACK THEM IN Federal code says every man should have a bunk but in both of them jails , they have only two man cells and three men in each leaving one to sleep on the Flore next to the toilet. That is a FEDERAL VIOLATION alone.

Next Violation is a federal health code violation. Each inmate is entitled to have a clean sheet and a blanket, A clean plastic covered mattress, one clean bath towel a clean face towel and higienes such as a tooth brush and a bar of soap.
#1 the mattresses are NOT covered and they provide sheets that are torn in half to make two sheets out of one there fore the leaves the inmate no choice but to lay on the dirty mattress someone else had to sleep on beside the toilet.
