Your silly attempts to ridicule and bully Springboro schools
reform-minded board of education representatives is not funny; but quite harmful, projecting the status quo tunnel vision of our student achievement level already as "high as can be" under the leadership of Dr. Ron Malone.
This is nothing but false indoctrination being spewed by union activists, implying that only a great educator of 40 years experience and beloved high school principal,(who knows best how to "disciple" union youth groups into protesting community-wide for the teachers union job security) has expertise to lead our school district....
therefore, the reform minded school board president should just "step down" allowing the highly respected Dr. Ron Malone to lead the Springboro Board of Education back to the "future" of the good old days, before 2009, when board member Don Miller and the good old boys "ruled" as education gods, hunkered down inside the close knit community of the status quo union-minded kind.
As concerned parents for our children's future, we must not be taken in by Mr. Malone's "peter pan" syndrome publicly expressing that our students cannot "thrive" in their studies without Mr. Malone's daily greeting "have a nice day." It is in the best interest of all to dispel this creepy "cult-like" image of the education god that Mr. Malone appears to enjoy cultivating and exploiting for his own political aspirations; as one of Mr. Petrey's district parent council members bid best wishes to Mr. Malone in his future endeavors?
In recent public meetings and TV broadcasts to the community, Mr. Petrey has increased his praise for the wonderful work of Dr. Malone, even hinting that to replace experienced educators would take THREE younger ones that are coming out of college, fully trained with updated trends in education! Wow! is Mr. Petrey giving the nod for Mr. Malone to "take over" leadership of the Springboro Schools Board of Education and reverse our reform minded new philosophy to "business as usual" putting our Union employees FIRST?
Nothing funny there; just scary for our children's 21st centruy education!
What do you have against Dr. Malone?

A helpful tutelage from the Ohio Department of Education on the scales for the results on the Math test

Limited.........0-12 points..........0-25% correct on the test
Basic..........12.5-17.5 points.......26%-36% correct on the test
PROFICIENT...18-27 points..........37.5%-56% correct on the test
Accelerated...27.5-34 points..........57%-71% correct on the test
Advanced......34.5-48 points..........72%-100% correct on the test

This is not a difficult test, take it for yourself, it is on the ODE website.

http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/Pages ...

Then wonder why after two years of preparation in our "college prep" high school, nearly 40% of the children taking this test score 75% or less, and still have not mastered basic math covering what should have been learned in grades 1-9. They even let a child use a calculator and provide a cheat sheet with all the necessary formulas required to answer the questions on the test.

Seriously, who wishes to defend labeling a student who has mastered less than 56% of the math material as "PROFICIENT"?

Only our high school administration team would sit in front of the cameras and present to the community 97.4% of our students taking the OGT were "PROFICIENT" and above. And then proceed to bask in the clapping and cheering from the union and the union supporters with a straight face.

Warren County Educational Service Center Report 2012

Page 10 discussing High Schools That Work standards and our backsliding DECREASES in key areas.

Why the School Should Continue to Address This Key Practice.

According to Table 8, ONLY 43% Of SHS students have completed the HSTW recommended curriculum (Ohio Core), a 34 percent DECREASE from 2008. Although interviews indicate that this sharp decrease is the result of changes in the process for coding transcripts, versus changes in curriculum, the DECREASE is still noteworthy. Only 60% of SHS students completed 4 credits of CP English, a DECREASE of 33% from 2008. There was a 5% DECREASE between 2008 and 2010 with 77% of students completing 4 credits of CP mathematics. 80% completed three credits of CP science, a decrease of 12% from 2008. Only 55% of SHS students completed at least one concentration,
30% below the HSTW goal.

SHS still offers general level classes (Algebra 1A and 1B, physical science, US History, and World History). Thus, not all students experience a college-preparatory curriculum.

Documents provided to the TAV Team indicate that CONTRARY TO the HSTW philosophy, SHS believes that offering low~level courses is in the best interest of students.

This belief, however, was NOT SUBSTANTIATED by research or data.

Totally agree! I'll most certainly VOTE for success for our children's future by supporting reform minded school board candidates for BOE election and re-election.

Why would any responsible parent and concerned citizen just Vote for Revenge against our children first...?

Is it because those graduates don't spend time focusing on studying math or other subjects? Where are the parents and why aren't they studying with their children? How is this Dr Malone's fault? Did you child get punished at school and you didn't like that?

None of the above.

As concerned parents and voters in this school district, we appreciate the service and expertise of all school employees;
but we just don't agree that any one of our school employees is so uniquely gifted, and somehow so special, that any individual employee is irreplaceable. Truth be told -- They are not.

And how silly it is of our school superintendent to over-inflate the ego of any one of our school employees, by casually suggesting
during conversation that it would take three newly-trained "ones" to replace only "one" tired old worn out educator with 40 years of "business as usual" experience.

As the old saying goes "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Or, as the mantra of those rallying to "rest on our laurels"
suggests: the pursuit of status quo excellent with distinction can lead no higher than leadership complacency, resulting in mediocricy in our students' academic achievements.

This discussion goes far beyond the walls of Springboro schools. This discussion is about the gradual, yet systematic lowering of the bar of academic expectations for ALL of Ohio's public school students - all in the name of each and every district's respective struggle to get the top State rating.

Given the latest news from Michigan regarding the passing of Right to Work legislation in that state it is encouraging to know that Ohio is right behind them. No longer should teachers be coerced into to participating in an organization that contradicts many teachers moral convictions. See links below. Forced unionism is a Marxist philosophy and has no place in Springboro. Yes a teacher can opt out but must still pay a large portion of the Membership dues. How about giving the teachers the ability to opt and an pay nothing.

The Pro Union thugs that attend your meetings undermine and interfere with the Board's efforts of promoting fiscally responsible Pro Student/tax Payer initiative’s. The noise they make always leads back to what’s best for the teachers union interests with little concern for the Student or the Tax payer. Please understand I am thankful for the many great teachers in Springboro, it’s the Union who we have issues with.

Please do not cave to their Thug Tactics, the Community is behind you and appreciate your efforts to be fiscally responsible. Unelected Union Sympathizers have no platform to constantly harass the BOE members as they are neither Staff nor Union Members. As Union puppets their only purpose is create division and discontentment within the Schools and Community.

The best thing that can happen is to make Right to Work a Law here in Ohio and it is coming. http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2012/12/1...

Check out what the NEA/Teachers Union stands for regarding Homosexuality, Liberal and Christian viewpoints. In my opinion Teachers Unions are like affirmative action, they force employers to compensate groups of individuals based on the demands of the group rather than individual performance/contributions. It is insulting to individual liberty and personal responsibility and is basically a legal form of extortion. Do we really want organizations with these kinds of radical agendas shaping our schools ideology?

What a joke I just saw my kids course offerings for the high school. BOE let's see you get out of this one as all social studies electives for next year were cut. All of these courses were college prep and met the requirements for NCAA clearinghouse. Can't be money because you added PE courses. Yes everyone the BOE replaced academic courses with additional PE courses. If PE is the new BOE agenda save it for your conversion school. You can make it the Springboro PE Academy. Maybe with more A's in PE GPA's will go up? BOE I know your out there (as most of you are on here posting.) BOE you have reached a new low replacing college level courses with additional PE offers. These are the same board members who talked about how more history should be taught in public schools. What a slap in the face! I'm pretty sure Oakwood, Centerville, Mason, Kings, Solon, or any other top school district in the state is not replacing academic course offerings with PE. BOE if this is your answer to raising student achievement you are the joke!!!

Read the part that says the high school curriculum was dumbed down for no particular reason other than certain high school administrators thought it was best for the children. The Auditors found no such foundation in research or data for that opinion.

According to the Ohio Board of Regents, 26% or so of our graduates are taking no credit remedial classes in college. The parents of these Springboro High School graduates are now forced to pay tuition to obtain that knowledge that should have been garnered in the high school.

College ready indeed.
