School levies put voters in tough spot …. Additional education programs are costing us money when we are already paying for ABLE/GED programs that can take care of the students that do not want to or cannot participate in traditional educational programs. Centerville City Schools spends some $300,000 of our tax dollars on a program called School of Possibilities while we tax payers are already supporting GED programs that accomplish the same end result; a high school diploma. I am sure other school districts in the Montgomery County area are doing the same thing. Why should tax payers that are already feeling the affect of the financial pinch due to lower home values and poor job situations pay for duplicate educational programs? The GED programs exist at Barnes School in Kettering, The Job Center in Dayton, and in Clayton at the Miami Valley CTC. If the American Government is striving to eliminate duplication and wasteful spending; shouldn’t our local agencies be doing the same thing? According to the ABLE/GED fact sheet; they are educating students at an annual cost of $502.($25,365,182 total funds to educate 50,537 students) Most school systems are at $10,000 per student.
