I was searching for something/anything that might lead me to whether or not anyone saw the same thing I did this past Saturday night and your post pops up - very similar!
I saw...a very bright orange glowing, slow flying object, coming from the South heading north West, about 8:55-9:00pm, Saturday night, March 23, 2013. I can only use my photo as a landmark, and the glowing vessel seemed to be traveling about 850 feet above the ground, and I say this because on the topo map, the hill it went behind is that tall, since we live down in a bowl here, near the center of town.
It seemed like it was low, and luckily I had my camera in hand taking pics of the moon and stars in my back yard. It was not the sun or the reflection of the sun on a craft; there was no sun at that moment, for the sun had gone down a couple hours before and I have pictures of that sunset at about 7:00pm, 2 hours prior.(I do notice, there is an "orangish glow" in the exact direction where i would be seeing the orange glowing ball later on.) Interesting sunset too, I remember thinking it looked like the "cigar shaped" ship you hear people talk about seeing, in the west sun while it was setting, just a very interesting beautiful sunset earlier that night.
I would have missed this if i hadn't of stood up to stretch my back, this low flying object; it made no sound...and saw it thinking oh for gosh sakes I neet to get a picture!!!- had to think fast, it was about to go behind the little mountain since we are in a bowl down here....I had my camera set for still objects practically so I needed to run and change the setting to 800, and a flash, and I couldn't really see the weed trees at the fence looking out onto a field in back of my house, but the flash shows them up, I also thought to put the setting on "infinity" so it wouldn't been too grainy, but that far away, without a telephoto lens, at 1600 approx. feet, it's gonna get grainy. I was thrilled to get the shot before it went around the little hill. I suppose you could judge the size of the object by calculating the distance from where I was standing and the proportion to the tree or something...I did map it out onto printed out satellite map page...
I called the airport on Valley Rd., he said they didn't have any craft there doing night flying at that time. He said I would have to call all the airports and ask the same question, if the object was a planned flying object in their airspace.
This is not the first time I have seen this type of "UFO", as a matter of fact my 14 year old son and I had seen one together this past fall, from about a 5 mile distance after I looked at the satellite map we figured it out the distance and angle and height from the horizon. That particular one was about the same size, same bright orange glowing ball, traveling low, strange, slow but almost jerky slow movements. Then it just disappears out of sight.
How about yours, how big was it and the distance from where you were standing; and did you get photos? or see it in relation to something else? What were you thinking when you saw it? Have you reported it to MUFON? Lots of these types of UFO's going on here, and it is difficult to figure out what to do, no one is telling us anything about who to report anything to. Heck, for all we know it could be the Base practicing flying any of their special Unmanned aircraft. It's all very confusing. I always think...would if were something very threatening...and i'm sitting here taking photos of it!
If anything, I hope my pictures are good documentation of the whole process of what ever is happening.
let me know if you have any photos or details of what occurred.
