Everywhere I look there seems to be plenty of you fellow McMinnvillians who are driving nice vehicles, you have nice clothes, decent homes, and you are carting out buggy fulls of stuff from good ole Wal-Fart, so tell me, where do you work? How do you thrive so well in this dried up town?
I want to know!

Not everyone is like that here in McMinnville...you are just judging people and not getting your facts straight and by the way I do work and I work hard for what I have.

Can't help you there either,,, I barely ever have enough to cover the milk and eggs I buy. Once in a great while I break down and get a lemonaide. Bet most other people live off of us and work for the State or county.

You ARE right, most people around here think they know, but they don't

I can't speak for anyone else. I work 60 hours a week. My wife works about 50. Even that doesn't seem enough. You are right, this is one hard town to make a decent living in. I see wasted money everywhere. The city itself, over sized houses even churches now. A lot of it is other people money and long term dept they want someone else to pay. The ones that look like they have it made sometimes are the ones that can't pay their bills. I don't see a very good future for this town considering the ongoing collective blundering. I made sure my family understood this and was glad they moved to better towns.

I think that most live off welfare and don't even want the 4 or 5 kids they have but they run to DHS every chance they get and see what else they have to offer if the pop out another one no offense to people with kids who need a little extra help but to those who run around having kids and running to get states help to pay their bills while they get free baby sitters and they sit on their butts all day at home isn't right. i suggest state cut down on what they give these people maybe they'll quit having all these kids. who don't need to be in this screwed up world any way.

I agree with you here, or the community needs to step in when they see fraud being done with the EBT cards. I work in a store and have seen many times when someone with a EBT card gets someone that will want to buy some groceries or something for the cash that they have spent on that EBT. I think that is very wrong and those that really do need it can not get it.

That has nothing to do with people carting out loads of 'stuff', or driving several nice vehicles. Those on welfare arent' the ones doing this. Let me tell you as a SINGLE mom of 4 (ex was abusive and we HAD to get out) who works 40 hours per week and still can't make it on that, ex pays no child support so we get a little bit of welfare and food stamps, my boss makes boo-koos of money and I'm a supervisor and only make $7.50 an hour! I'm not on salary. I drive a 5 year old car and have a decent payment that I can afford. I am still scraping by. I'm not going to any store blowing money on 'stuff' I don't need.
Those are the people I'm talking about, and don't lump all of us welfare recipients into the same 'sitting on our asses all day doing nothing' boat...thank you very much.

Im still young and live with my mom and dad. I work at a nursing home (making ten and hour) as a cna and i also have another job at a store working one day a week. I go to school full time at the local community college. I looked around and decided the only way that I was going to have nice things was to work my butt off and get through college-no matter what it takes. This dumb little town has been over run by hispanics. They have insurance, while some people (whos families have been here for generations) are thousands of dollars in debt because of hospitial bills. Their children are invading our school systems. Its ridiculous.

I was reading the paper this morning, for obvious reasons, and on the docket were so many names that are typical of hispanic decent all of whom had been in front of Ross this week for different reasons. They seem to outweight the other nationalities when it comes to 'trouble'; yet they are here for a better life?
Sorry, I agree with you Teri. I have to speak to them sometimes on the phone here at work and usually I end up completely at a loss b/c I can't understand them. I end up hanging up or telling them hey, I just cannot understand you and they hang up on me.

It is very difficult I understand, I have sent a few hispanics, black, and white to jail for things that they have done. Just recently I was court ordered to go to court for a man that was buying beer and he was refused so he got mad went outside and was trying to get into peoples cars because he was so drunk he could not remember where his car was, he then remembered and the police found him in his car getting ready to leave. Anyways Ross gave him some time in jail like 2 years if I'm not mistaken but I might me wrong it was probablly less.

I agree with the "shocked citizen"!! I moved here 12 years ago with hopes of raising my children away from the drugs that run rampent in the big city. What I have learned is there is more drugs here.My daughter and her ex-boy friend used to hang out at the clean up shop on N.chancery st.untill I caught her with pot and extassy. come to find out she bought it at the claen up shop and after I did some snooping around I found that since this cleanup shop opened there has been 2 major drug sting operations there ( the last in 2002) and still has not been shut down.RIGHT NEXT TO A SCHOOL!!

The clean up shop in McMinnville which you are refering to is called "Auto Expressions",Robert Woods is the owner and yess selling drugs is the only thing they are good at. Thay had to retint my windows twice and they have no clue how to install car stereo. after they put my sony radio in I had to take it somewhere else to get it to work.I was horrified when I saw how they chopped up the inside of my dash.I should have known when the installer asked another customer which wire went where that I went to the wrong shop!!!

Mcminnville is dead there is no opportunity to earn a living there, for years the County and City officials have let factory after factory leave,The men who have served as County Executive have all failed they have waisted money on Industrial Recruiters they have failed. The greedy city of McMinnville so hurting for money is trying to annex anything it can to earn some revenue. The city and county officials should of thought of this years ago as they set back and watched jobs leave this county.Instead they can only offer ideas such as buy McMinnville heck I earn my living in another county why should i be obligated to spend money here after all I pay land and wheel taxes thats enough as far as i am concerned.I guess we always have the nurseries and being known as the Nursery Capital of The World,is anyone else about tired of that. Its ashame that our elected officials have set on there rears for years and let this happen.Lets send them all packing again when there terms are up.County Executive Pelham above all must be replaced heck anyone can do what he has done while in office.I would advise the young people of this county study hard go to college and leave this gloomy town for good there is nothing here for you..... Warren Co is dead

Sorry, but if people WORK for the State or the county, then they are partially self-employed, because they are obviously taxpayers and tax dollars go to pay their salaries. If they weren't there, people would see what a need there is for them.

I graduated in 1984 and havent been back to McMinnville since. It is a good place to visit but not to stay. I feel the town is rooted in a backwoods mentality that still supports racism and segregation. Go to the Main Street homepage and you will see only one minority. I know there are more than Mexicans in this town. Go to the Southern Standard and you will see only 1 Black. Get rid of the good ole boys and get some new blood in the political arena and you might see a change. Get some current and relevent leadership and all will be good. And if the clean up shop is a drug haven then do something about it and do not patronize them.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Aries

The level of sexual chemistry flowing between you and you-know-who is so powerful right now that you could almost reach out and touch it. This could lead to some X-rated scenes but there's also a chance that it could go another way and provoke a combustible atmosphere. So do your best to steer the situation in whichever direction you want it to take.
