What will Big Run bring to Kentucky?

A 14 News follow up to a story we first brought you last week. Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher stopped in Ohio County Friday to officially announce the reopening of the Big Run Mine near Centertown.

I would start by putting my resume in at the OC opportunity center (aka employment office). The way they talk they will be starting up around the first of the year. Also I would suggest getting an underground mining card or at least a surface mining card. You need these to work at any mine. I went to Madisonville to get mine. You may already have yours. Anyways good luck to you.

Sounds like your well on your way. Hopefully we can both be hired. Surely we will with 900+ jobs up for grabs.I used to work at Big Run and it's a nice place to work. I'm from Ohio County. I don't know why it says I'm from somewhere else.

yea it says you are from Gilbertsville ky I have talk to them at madisonville office they told me to send in a resame I,m going to send that this week.I,m going after a face bosses job this time getting to old to work hard and sounds like they need people to help get the younger guys started that hasn.t ever worked in a mines any where.I use to live in MC.Henry for about 12 years and worked at alston 3 an help open up Walton Creek and close it.

I worked in WV as a coal miner for about 12 years but have been out of it since 1982. I am interested in a job in this mine. I last worked for Peabody, but they show no record of me. And, the one before that has none either. Have you or anyone that you know of had this problem caused by the buying/selling and going out of business of coal mines? If so, how did you or they resolve it.

I'm very interested in finding out how to apply for a job with this company.I have 16 yrs. underground exp.I run a continous miner and most anything else.Am willing to relocate from Harlan county to Ohio county.Sounds like this company could use a few exp. miners to help with training the red hats.

It will be an excellent place to work but you better keep an eye on people like Don Lamb. Ive worked with and around this guy for years and i know him like the back of my hand. He absolutely cant be trusted in any manner whatsoever.

Big Run can bring the stability of earning a good salary for area families. That's something that is sorely lacking for many in Ohio and Muhlenberg counties.
