Doesn't anyone remember Coach Warford's dismissal from one of his jobs as an assistant men's college basketball coach for offering an illegal incentive to a recurit if he signed to play ball for his institution? The buzz at the time was that if Reggie signed the recruit, Reggie would get a bonus, which Reggie indicated he'd share with the recruit. Did this factor in to the Board's decision to hire Reggie as the coach to lead the new MCHS basketbally program? I'm not certain what criteria carried the most weight with the Board, but hiring a coach with an overall losing record at the high school level AND a past major NCAA rules infraction must have had significant bearing on his selection. And, no doubt, parents throughout the county are singing the phrases of the Board for bringing aboard a coach who has distinguished himself and the programs he's represented in such a manner. Oh, and Dale, Jim and Mickey, if you happen to read this, it's sarcasm, not praise.

Per the Pittsburgh Post Gazette archives, in 1986 Reggie was not given the chance for the Pitt job when the head coach left (Roy Chipmann) and the new coach, Paul Evens, did not retain Reggie, but he did retain John Calipari who had been on the staff about 1 year. In Pitt (100 years of basketball) Chipmann said he finally decided to quit when his nine year old daughter came in and asked if he was going to go to jail for recruiting violations. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette archives have some very interesting details of the Reggie Warford lawsuit against the Lexington Herald Leader that the Herald Leader won, then lost, when an appeals court ruled that Reggie was not a public figure for a defamation case and this gave Reggie the advantage and the Herald Leader settled out of court. Their are several articles in the Post Gazette archives from the lawsuit trial period approximately January 10-30, 1989. It is real interesting reading in both directions. Some of the decisions to not hire/re-hire Reggie was in March(approx 27th) 1986 archives. Should you look this up, look thoroughly because testimony on 1 day may have been refuted in the next day's paper.

You Central City people have to realize that Reggie is our coach and will be for years to come. Regardless what happened back some 20 years ago has nothing to do with him today. I understand steve had numourous winning seasons although reggies basketball history and personality makes him the better man for the job. I feel this county needed a great change. One coach that will be fair to all kids regardless of what part of the county your from. Not only kids from Central City like its been in the past but kids from Drakesboro Greenville, Bremen, Graham and elswhere will have a chance. You need to get off your high horses and become one of Muhlenberg County great fans. Reggie is our coach and I am one proud fan. Good Luck Reggie and Go Mustangs.

If Warford's wife is still in Pittsburgh, are you still so proud of a Mustang fan that this team is being put together by KHSAA bending the rules for possible illegal transfers while having enforced the rules to deny a transfer to a Whiteville player last year?(who apparently had to sit out his senior season at Daviess Co?) I forgot. Uk and it's products can do anything as long as a "W' is involved.

Has anyone every figured out if reggie applied for the job or did J. Price just go out and make him an offer.
I agree that DT wanted to put an end to the Central City strong hold on BB. But do you really think that Steve S wouldn't have played the best players to win games regardless of where they are from.

First of all, I'm not from Central City. And something that happened some 20 years ago will follow Reggie everywhere he goes. It has something to do with accountability, I think. Why do you think he hasn't had a "desireable" job in that time frame? And, seriously, you think Reggie's basketball history and personality makes him the better man for the job? Even if the county needed a change, a legitimate attempt should have been taken to hire the best man for the job. If there had been, he would have been found already residing in Muhlenberg County. With all the basketball talent in Muhlenberg County, winning the Region year in year out should be the norm, and winning the State from time to time should be realistic. Depriving the young men and basketball fans in Muhlenberg County of that opportunity is a real shame. Reggie may be the coach for now, and he may make it through the entire year, but two years will be his maximum. He'll self-destruct. He always does. It has something to do with his history.

This person is obviously from d'boro and doesn't like steve sparks....Any coach they picked would have let the best players be on the team. It will be interesting to see of reg lives up to the expectations everyone has set for him. It he doesn't the people that were for him will never admit it was a mistake. They are too small for that!!!

I will have to agree with dlp. With reggie, every child will have a chance..
With steve, if you wasnt from cc, you did not play. My son was one. He did not fit in the cc click and was not treated fairly. I know of several greats that was not treated fairly. Go Reggie and Mustangs.

Yep, no doubt your star athlete kid was kept on the bench because of his address. Better to lose a game than to play someone from outside Central City! Steve Sparks would rather lose than to play kids from other parts of the county.

You should run for School Board. You are a genius.

You central city people never change. Remember we are talking about kids here. I promise you, I could have went in to the school and picked 5 players in the last 10 years and wear steve's team out. There were alot of talent in the schools that never got a chance because of their address..........

If you could do that, you are better than all the other coachees in the region. You should apply for the coaching job when Reggie is gone. Don't fret because you don't have the degree or certification, Reggie doesn't either. Anybody that is as good at coaching as you is needed. I am amazed that the other schools around haven't hired you. Looks like UK would have come calling when Billy Clyde was sent packing. People with your ability are in tremendous demand.

The 5 players you pick may have some talent bet they would lack heart and would not be willing to work hard to get in shape to play the game or they would already be on the team. To play ball at north you had to have those 2 traits. It had nothing to do with fitting in, just willing to work hard.

The only 2 traits that were needed to play for steve was live in central city or be in the central city click. That is the facts. If we were so good with steve, why havent we been back to the state since his son was there. Hmm, I guess if he would have went with the most talent instead of the cc and cc click, we would have.

Some really great basketball gurus on this site. They have no education or certification and have never been a coach, but could take kids who never played and win the region.

Schools all over the region/state have been hiring coaches who give their all, but never win a region or even a district title. And Steve Sparks could have gone to the state every year if he had been willing to play kids not in the 42330 zip code.

Now that makes a lot of sense. No wonder this county is the laughing stock of the statel

It's going to be a long long year for the Mustangs. They'll be luckly to win the district and after a losing season Reggie will move back with his wife in Pittsburg and the KSHAA will hand Muhlenberg County a forfit slip for playing Reggie's kids without following the transfer rules. After this year Steve Sparks will look good to you folks, but will be unavailable! Looks like you'll get what you all were looking for...a program that looks a lot like the old Muhlenberg South....losers.

I think that every one should get off the basketball coach and start thinking more about our kids and other things here we are have 2 nice schools and no football field for our 4A team to play at. I think that its an embarrassment to have team come to us and we can't even play at our on field but go to a middle school and play. Maybe the people need to work more on getting the schools better and not try to focus on what someone may or may not have done.

We should worry more about our kid's academic careers than sports or what someone thinks about the new teachers and staff. A scholarship in sports can get you into college but you have to make the grades to stay in college.

When North High was closed June 30th 2009 their academic state scores were in the top 10%. North Stars basketball program winning % over the last ten years according to KHSAA listed them in the top ten in that time period.

Daily Horoscope for December 5

Taurus

This is a day for turning your attention to your finances, especially if you're currently working on the budget for domestic improvements or changes. Talk to the other people concerned and really listen to what they're saying. They'll have some great insights. It will be far more productive to work as a harmonious team rather than as warring factions.
