Arrest made in Lake Grove school bomb threat case

A high school student at the Lake Grove School was arrested Thursday after she made bomb threats to the school the previous day, Suffolk police said.

I live near the school and it is a badly manager, dangerous place. Several administrators have been fired for cause, and teens roam the local streets and stores, causing problems and true city ugliness in this otherwise nice surburban area. It's time the school was rezoned for expensive houses, creating more money for local schools that do have programs for disturbed teens. Lake Grove, open your eyes to this blot on our lovely reputation. These kids need better than this school provides - a Victorian-like, dark and gloomy, place, a sad remnant from another time. They closed Kings Park and Pilgrim, similar dens of horror, now do the same for the Lake Grove School.

There is a plan on the table to triple the size of the school and move it to Yaphank.
They can't handle what they have now and want to triple the size.

The truth is these kids are criminals from NYC who are too young to enter the NYC penal system. The City of New York pays to house these kids here. The people of our town have had meetings and tried to get the school closed down. Every time they try to relocate, that new town fights back. The owner burned down the gym several years ago, then sold the vacant land to build new houses. Totally corrupt and totally out of control. These derelict kids run away from the school on a regular basis. They are a threat to our town...but as long as the owner gets his paycheck from NYC, he doesn't care.

How would you know what the kids look like up at that school? Do you think the kids in your school district in Ft. Lauderdale look any different?

Get your facts straight! There are many more kids in Lake Grove School who are from Suffolk and Nassau County's then there are from NYC. They are the kids whom the public schools can't/won't deal with anymore...your PUBLIC SCHOOLS!! If they had programs to deal with those kids, they wouldn't send them to Lake Grove to begin with. I praise the efforts of Lake Grove School. All of you know nothing about what they do there!

I do because I used to work there! The public schools "can't" deal with them because they belong in jail! These kids don't respond to any program in the public system. That's what got them kicked out in the first place. Some of them have assaulted teachers, other citizens, robbed stores and houses, sexually assaulted their own siblings...among other things to get them to that school in the first place. Sometimes the police would bring them in handcuffs, unlock them and hand us their duffel bag and drive off. These are not poor, misunderstood kids. A lot of them used to come from the NYC school system and not Long Island. Maybe that has changed now with some of the other changes they have made. But, they would go AWOL, break into houses, shoplift at the mall which is on the corner, and wreak havoc. The neighbors are right! I was glad I didn't live near there! They have been talking about moving the school for years, but like the other writer mentioned, who would want them? The other towns all fight it. One thing I can say, though, is that the staff work hard and have to deal with a lot and are not properly compensated for it!! That is a dedicated staff!!

You obviously know much more than anyone else what goes on in that place. "What Truth" doesn't have a clue. I've seen first hand what the staff has to deal with. These kids are ED1&2 cases. It's not an easy job. With the money the owner gets from NYC, they should pay their staff better.

Thanks! I agree with you about the pay. It got a little better once the union was voted in (which was obviously not welcomed by the admin and owner) but it's still not enough - especially since it is a 12 month school. Vacations and holidays are limited. Staff work hard and need to be on their toes at all times to aviod getting hurt.
