Hey Jake, Sorry but I'm in my forty's and grew up in Brentwood. If it's such a great place, walk down 5th avenue at 11pm and see how long you last. I actually cry when I think about it. Long Island and Brentwood was a great place to grow up, you could actually keep you doors unlocked at night. You would be a fool to do it today. Call me a racist if you want, but the facts are facts....

I think what really makes people on here look stupid is the lack of writing skills and command of the english language! I have never seen so many illiterate people in my life unitl I came here. That's what people should be embarassed about! I think it's disgusting. People have different opinions on religion and race, but everyone should know how to WRITE!!

There is no bad "part" of Brentwood anymore. I am a proud graduate of Brentwood High School. I go back often to visit my Dad. I used to live in the "good" part (East Brentwood off of Fulton) now even that part is bad. You can tell where the Legal citizens live their yards and house are kept, only enough cars for a normal size family. While the non-legal houses are eyesores. The children run rampant through the streets and could careless about other peoples property or their own safety.

Someone should do something about this instead of watching the criminal rate go up ... how long will it be until they kill someone you love ??? The school should do something and the cops should be more alert point blank .

Wrong. North Brentwood is actually a good area compared to the rest of Brentwood. I've lived in Brentwood for about 20 years and have not had any problems. The houses/yards/properties are well kept. Crime is low. I'm actually suprised myself how nice it has remained considering the rest of Brentwood is the way you described. I'm talking about by Washington Ave between the LIE and Suffolk Ave.

Wrong? Washington Ave is the only good part? You are sadly mistaken. IGA and that whole shopping area is a craphole. That bar over there has been closed down quite a few times for shootings. You can not drive down Clark St to get to Jefferson Ave without having atleast 5 near accidents. They may not live on Washington Ave, but that area is just as bad as the rest.

It was NOT a rival gang shooting that occured. The only gang that was there was MS X 13 and THATS IT. NEWSDAY NEEDS TO GET THERE STORY STRAIGHT.

Police NEVER do anything about the situation. There is always problems right there on stein drive with MS X 13 and they NEVER do anything about it. Therefore I DO NOT blame anyone who protects themselves against them. It's always the victims friends that help protect them look like they are the trouble maker which in truth THEY ARE NOT!!

I KNOW THIS BECAUSE THE VICTIM IN THIS ARTICLE IS MY BOYFRIEND. HE WAS ATTACKED BY MS X 13. HE IS NOT IN A GANG AT ALL OR HIS FRIENDS NEITHER

Out of all the people making comments about where the money is going: Have you recently been inside a school in Brentwood? Most of the kids in these schools try their best and work incredibly hard. I have a lot more respect for those students than I have for the rude & judgmental people leaving these comments. And they will be a lot more successful and importent in life then any racist person in these comments.
I AGREE WITH YOU SO MUCH. I USED TO BE A STUDENT THERE AND STUDENTS DO WORK VERY HARD IN BRENTWOOD. BRENTWOOD IS CHARCHTERISE BY SO MANY PEOPLE AND TO ME THAT IS NOT FAIR BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW THESE PEOPLE ACT OR CARRY THEMSELVES

Well the laundromat on Clark and the store behind it aren't all that good. Agreed. But the rest of N. Brentwood IS. IGA is fine. I go there all the time. Everyone is friendly there and I never had any issues. Now if you said Pathmark on Wicks, then that's a different story!

This town is the biggest dump on Long Island. The people can't write in English because they don't need to. The stores have Spanish signs, and the students can elect to have their classes taught to them in Spanish at Brentwood High School. It's a joke of a school that passes them all through the system so that it doesn't have to put up with their garbage for more than three years. Yesterday was their first "Green and White Day" where students who achieved more than a 75 average in all of their classes were honored with an ice cream party. Out of 4,000 students, only 900 achieved this feat. Laughable. The crime is despicable- EVERYWHERE in this town. Homes are boarded up on every block, dogs run wild, and the abundance of North Carolina license plates makes it obvious which state does not require proof of citizenship or residence to register a car. The sad thing is that the people who live there don't even know that they live in the ghetto. The place is an extension of El Salvador- loaded with people who have never left the town, nor will they ever. The white people fled, the Puerto Rican people fled, and all that remains is a chunk of people who are unable to matriculate into American civilization (according to local newspapers). When white people step in to try to improve this place, they are pushed out and criticized for not giving jobs of power to those who better "represent" the community. So, every so often, the cycle continues where local authorities hit the reset button an revert back to politicians and school officials who were born and raised in this dump and know no better. Whenever anyone tries to change this place they remain unsupported by the community and those who probationary jobs that are on shaky ground. The Joe Clarks of the world prevail only in the movies. In the real world they are forced into retirement so everyone can turn a blind eye and just keep supporting this shithole.

Im a student at BHS I was inside the school when this whole thing happened as well as other people who posted here. At first I looked at this post thing just for curiosoty purposes but it disgusts me how ignorant people can be. I hate BHS and alot of the people here are pretty corny but its a decent place to live. Maybe not as nice as North Babylon or Smithtown but not as racist either but thats honestly your problem, deal with your own ignorance. I can't say youre gonna get yours because thats immature and mommy and daddy are probably going to pay your way through college anyway [for some of you]. Im graduating with an advanced regents diploma this year and no it wasnt easy and yeah things happen here but they happen everywhere.
Columbine was a nice neighborhood and i bet it still is but the situation that happened doesnt make it a bad place to live. The incident here was with non students and nobody died, somebody got stabbed, Ive seen friends go through worse. So before anybody wants to come out with any immigrant comments go ask mom and dad where you're from your Italian, Irish, Polish whatever you are you didnt just magically appear here, your immigrants too and FYI the kid who got stabbed is Puerto Rican so congratulations on calling him an immigrant because hes not.
Ignorant comments don't do anything but make you stupid. and half of you probably wouldn't say it to anybodys face anyways . so have fun pretending your somebody when youre not =]
I was born and raised in Brentwood, though I do not live there any longer I do agree with you. People are ignorant and there is nothing that we can do about it. Your words are 100% correct, I love seeing White Americans acting as if they are original to this counrty we all immigrated here and then colonized, they might want to look that up. Brentwood has it's good with it's bad and so does every other town on Long Island. There are plenty of well educated people who have come from Brentwood and do very well for themselves. I am one of them and so is my husband, for an accountant and a architectual drafter we do very well for ourselves, and we are not White we are Puerto Rican and Mexican, and we are both legal, so to all the kids in Brentwood you want to make something of your self do not let anyone stop you!

My point is again exemplified by your posting. People of this town do not know that they are as uneducated as they truly are. Go check your spelling and grammar. You make mistakes that wouldn't allow you to pass the 8th grade English Language Arts test if it weren't graded by teachers who are evaluated on students' performance. It's not your fault. The politics of this town won't allow advancement. The minority voice keeps stepping all over its own toes. The board of education is uneducated, yet they dictate the level of instruction- they keep band and art teachers yet pack the English classrooms to capacity when they lay off their teachers. There's no attendance policy in the schools- why teach our children that "showing up" is important? I can't wait to move from this town. If I never see another boarded up house with stray dogs and a bunch of chickens running around near it, I'll be a happy camper.

North Brentwood was definitely a nice area. East over by Fulton was very nice. I always considered that to be part of North Brentwood even though they went to Ross. I think they made it separate from North so Ross could get have some extra in the mix.
