The two Sixth Section Crime Section officers, who are usually in plainclothes, were in full dress uniform at the time of the arrests because they had just attended the wake of Officer Glen Ciano,
The question is would these two cops have attended the wake if they were not being paid?

Does SCPD rules and regs permit cops to attend funerals on the county dime, as well as use a county police car to travel to the wake?

Who was protecting us while these two cops were attending the wake in uniform?

Incident: Arrests for DWI-Drugs, Possession of Controlled Substances
Location: 12 Columbus Avenue, Farmingville
Date/Time: February 25, 2009 at 9:00 PM

Suffolk County Police Sixth Precinct Crime Section Officers, with the assistance of Sixth Squad NE/SOT Detectives, have arrested a Farmingville man for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and drug related charges.

On February 25, 2009, at about 9:00 PM, Sixth Precinct Crime Section Officers were driving in an unmarked car on College Road in Farmingville, when they observed a vehicle heading the other way missing a front tire, a headlight and driving erratically. The officers, who are usually in plainclothes, were in full dress uniform due to the fact that they were coming back from Officer Ciano’s wake, who recently died in the line of duty. As the officers attempted to turn around and stop the vehicle, an alarm was broadcast on the police radio regarding a car that left the scene of a crash nearby. The officers briefly searched for the vehicle, and quickly located it at 12 Columbus Avenue, Farmingville, with the driver exiting from it and heading into that residence. They arrested Timothy Alonso, 21, within that residence for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

While in the residence, the officers observed quantities of various drugs in the room. Further investigation by the officers and Sixth Squad NE/SOT Detectives led to the recovery of approximately 140 grams of cocaine, a quantity of pills, marijuana,“mushrooms” and approximately $1,580 cash. As a result, Alonso was additionally charged with 4 felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 4 misdemeanor counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one count of Criminal Possession of Marijuana.

Lynn Schandel, 20, Alonso’s girlfriend who was present in the residence, was also arrested. She was charged with a felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3 misdemeanor counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one count of Criminal Possession of Marijuana.

Both defendants will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip, on February 26, 2009.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
