I have had a problem with LIPA also. They do NOT attempt to read the meter every month. They estimate every other month. I called and asked why and they said it is do to cost savings - not having to send someone out every month. My bills spike very high and when they do they always give me the same line about air conditioners and pool pumps. I have energy saver bulbs throughout the house and use everything else sparingly. They are DEFINITLY ripping people off!

Our monies go to the overpaid executives, hopefully they choke on their snot one day.

I also have run inwith LIPA, thye say I used twicw as much KW this year then last and billed me $643 for that 2 month span, I checked my bills from last year and was billed $144 so if i double that it would only be $288, when i checked the bills i used 2k kws last year and 3k this year that on 1/3 more but my bill went up 3X.so what gives? when I asked what was it a KW last year I was told I do not have that info infront of me..so yes they ripping us all of and the increase in our utilites(are we the highest in the country?) is making so we cannot afford to live anymore, and do not get me started on the insurance industry..scammers draining the poor because we have no other choices.

okay...take a minute and read your bill. An estimate is an ESTIMATE!!!! not actual usage. Do you really believe that you can use your air conditioner for $100 a month in the summer? and then yell when you get the actual reading that adjusts your usage for $400??? come on!!! Stop looking for excuses - and admit that you are just trying to get away with not paying your bill. People find it hard to accept that they are energy HOGS!!! The average 1000 square foot home with 2.5 people with room a/c's and standard appliances should cost you about $200/month and thats with using your a/c sparingly....If you don't believe it - then pack your bags - go to a southern state - and live in the boon docks - pay less taxes and listen to the crickets!!! cause you don't belong here!!! It is tough for everyone these days - but come on - don't play the game of saying you dont use ANY ELECTRIC...YOUR NEVER HOME!!! I bet you even unplug your refrigerator when your not home right??? be real!!!

Why do you sound so uptight? How does one know that LIPA isn't trying to overcharge customers? The problem comes from the mass accounts of corruption on L.I. that nobody knows who to believe and people always feel that they are being swindled. Walking around and reading meters is an ancient method. My electric company pulls up everyones accounts on the 19th of every month and gets an actual reading that is sent right from the meter box to the electric company billing department. If LIPA wasn't so busy handing out those fat salaries they would have more money to get with the latest technology. But I guess things will never change.

Hummmm...uptight? no - just realistic. Yes it would be wonderful if LI was able to have the latest technology of having the Off Sight Meter Reading Technology - but i am sure that comes with a cost. Is it too much to ask a consumer if they don't want an estimated bill to get off their behind to read their own meter and be billed for actual kwh usage? Or are they too busy enjoying the airconditioning they have blasting at 60 degrees watching their big screen tv's with surround sound that doesnt use any electric????? uptight? no - just realistic.

I read my meter myself on the estimated months. Because the estimates are always too high and I refuse to give LIPA my extra money. This past month was supposed to be an actual reading but when I got my bill...it was estimated and, of course, too high. Why was it estimated when it should have been an actual? Apparently, it rained that day and the meter reader couldn't make it. So, I read my meter and had to call to get my bill adjusted. I should not have to do this...I pay LIPA enough money that they can have a meter reader there every month. Oh, and lets not get started on the incorrect meter reads!!

I writing this in hope that someone out there might have some idlers on how I can fight LIPA with this high bill… My problem started about 2 years ago, I called LIPA and spoke to a women in the Melville office we will call her L, I told her mu bills are wrong and I see my meter doing so strange things when would read my meter for lipa because no one would was reading my meter and one mouth it would read 100kw more then last and next mouth it would read 100kw less then the mouth before. After about 20 calls over a year and a half someone finaly came out and pulled my meter and set a new one I thought to myself thank god finally, about 3 mouth went buy and I got a letter in the mail that stated that the dials were worn down and out of aliment and they billed me back to 2006 and said I owed them 25000.00 in back electric usage mind you I was paying 200. To 250.00 an mouth for a 1200sq foot home with 2 bedrooms. I called the revenue guy that did the investigation of my meter and he told me that the meter should have been taken out of service years ago and that my bill would be adjusted and they would make it rite.. lol they dropped my bill from 25k to 18k and then sent me a disconnecting notice.
Know mind you that LIPA adjusted my last year’s bill to the usage they say I was using and not billed for, so when LIPA estimates my bill for the mouth and then after coming to my house after estimating my bill for 2 mouth and take a reading ( im paying 250 a mouth no matter what my new bills are saying) they estimated my 2 mouths so high that I get a credit od over a hundred bucks to my next mouths bill, if anyone knows who I can call for help with then please email me @ [email protected]
