I was only stating facts, and according to the civics I had in school, I have every right to do so. Grow up.

Mr. Sweeney was a great guy. I had him in school for 3 years as a teacher and 4 as a coach. The fact that he's taking the heat for this towns ridiculous need to find some kind of importance in the world is a tragedy.

What this kid did was wrong and entrapment. As to his comments he made to girls. Total BS. Did he joke around and maybe push the line sometimes yea maybe but not one of those girls felt harassed in any way at the time. But now they hear about all this controversy and want so badly to be involved they bring out all these things like they were so offended. All those girls loved him for his candor and genuinely honest relationship with his students. I pray that these students are re-payed for their sins in full and that Sweeney will have a happy content life after this tragic affair.

Facebook accounts can be hacked. Sweeney had a letter from FB that stated his site was compromised - gave it to the administration when it happened in June. My sister-in-law was just hacked - let us all know. There was a case where students created a fake account in a teacher's name and did the same thing. The teacher didn't even know of the account.
If parents had complaints - why were they not in the file - there is a policy for parental complaints. One complaint on file (2001) not several as stated in an earlier post.
Maybe, just maybe, he decided to put the needs of his family first and decided to resign, and try to put his life together. Let the ODE clear his name, as he clearly did not feel he could ever be at Centerburg again.
Mount Vernon News stated that the students involved will be disciplined. They showed pornographic images around school - that has to be a crime.
If your a man and out of college, how about you dont have a Facebook account? Let women and little kids navigate social media. Focus on your job and family. A teacher shouldnt be allowed to have Facebook, too many dangers lurking...just a helpful tip.

Really???? Your saying that teachers shouldnt be allowed access to a social networking site. In which he can keep in touch with old ac quittances, people he knew from high school, and just general access to the networking phenomenon that is Facebook. Just because maybe your not hip enough to have one doesn't mean others shouldn't.

Such is the problem with Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other Social Deviant Network sites.

The guy is a bonehead for corresponding w/ someone he really didnt know.(Unless those kids used an actual person's name and pic that he knew). If those kids used someone elses real name and pic to start a page, then they will be prosecuted under new internet impersonations laws. Those guys are true DooshBags.

In the old days I'd never have heard about this. Not worth local news. But the internet makes everything too small and under scrutiny.

Yeah, under that other Doosh's logic, no person who works in any public capacity should have a Facebook. Heck, no one should then. they could be a scout master, or mom who makes the snacks for kids soccer, or local barber, or checkout chick at grocery store, or HR Block accountant.
The students who made up the fake account need a good old fashioned beating by students who really liked this teacher.

Of course, blame the kids! They were given a consequence and have learned a lesson. That's what kids do when they make a mistake. An adult who makes a mistake like sending a picture of his penis, lying and behaving like a child during his entire teaching experience at Centerburg should be fired. That is his consequence.
I applaud the students because the teacher's indescretion didn't start with the penis picture, it started during the summer when he was sending inappropriate messages to one of the boys sister who graduated that year. Yeah, nice family man! I'm sure those of you who support this childish, perverted man, can't believe that happened too! It's always the wife who is the last to believe. She is better off getting herself a new life with someone who is not going to embarrass her nationally. He has no right to educate children and there are more stories that this school knows about, but kept to themselves. It happens everywhere, and thanks to the Internet, the number of these nasty adults are getting their just deserve.
