They don't do it in the village of make grove or the village of patchogue and they both have private carters picking up garbage. So I find it hard to belive no tax increase when the town even does inspections at fire island and charge for the service.

I have drug dealing coming out of an illegal accessory apartment as soon as the sun goes down. have you ever thought about calling the Suffolk County Police? A village won't change the drug activity.

The the formation of the village is a political idea. It cannot be all things to all people.
On one side, there are people that do not trust the government. They do not want yet another layer of laws telling them what they can or can't do especially in regards to their own homes. On the other side of the coin there are people that think their ideologies are correct and they "know best" so they will tell everyone else how to live.
Then there are the people who want to be parented. They like the government taking care of things for them. They feel entitled to services and are fine paying for them as long as they don't have to get their hands dirty. At the same time there are people who are self-sufficient, they abhor the idea of having someone, especially the government, parent them. They refuse to pay for services and would rather shovel their own snow, cart their own garbage, and pave their own roads then have to pay one-cent for these services.
These people will forever be in a battle.
But most of us are somewhere in the middle. We want our neighbors to follow the "unwritten suburban laws" of mow your lawn, pick up your trash, wave from the driveway and leave me alone.
How will the Village accommodate that? How will it keep the taxes low? How will it get the Town to do what we want without charging a service fee? Will we still be paying ALL the town taxes? Will the Town give us an extra charge for basic services? If we want a sewer line will we have to pay for it ourselves? Instead of being able to defer the cost through all the people of Brookhaven (approx. 450,000) Will we have to split the cost between ourselves?(approx. 12,000) So a $10,000,000 sewer would cost us either $22.23 (through the town) or $833.34 per person (through the village). This is just an example but will every service will be like this?
What is to stop the Town of Brookhaven from changing it's laws so it saves money and defers the cost to the Villages? It would be a good political move — only approx. 45,000 out of 450,000 possible votes opposing. And it would lower the taxes in the rest of Brookhaven.
Something to think about.

It takes a village
Patchogue, NY

The most important aspect of government is who runs it. Although it is suppossed to be "for the people and by the people" whoever is actually in office is running the show. So who's running?? What is their experience?
I think QUESTIONS should run. And what about Bob Debona for Mayor he has done a tremendous amount of positives for Mastic Beach. The village sounds like it could work with the right people working together.

The F/C stands for a vulgar reference to a female To anonymously attack a fellow community activist in such derogatory terms is the act of a complete coward. How about putting your name to such scurrilous comments? Or better yet, come on down to our meeting tonight and make your statement in the open. Small chance of that: degeneracy is usually inversely proportional to courage! P.S. I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I don't do blogs for this very reason. If you have something to say, put your name to it. What kind of "snake" would, with complete anonymity, both insult a neighbor and try to ruin the reputation of an organization like PCCA? And, why didn't the blog moderator remove such an inappropriate posting? Makes you wonder who would write such a thing, and why?

It depend's on the amount of service's the village want's to shoulder,if the village want's to pick up garbage on it's own,it can,but if not,it is still done by Brookhaven, which we pay for either way.Nothing's free.

Everyone for or against the village should read, re-read or watch George Orwell's "Animal Farm".

If Crookhaven decides it wants to charge us more for that garbage pickup it can. We wont be protected by any Crookhaven laws. So either MB buys its own trucks or we pay more than the rest of Crookhaven. They can charge us every time they have to pick up a stray animal. Fix a pot hole. Tell me they cant and why not?

I guess some people didn't go to the meetings where it was explained by Mr. Marcocia the Tax Receiver about the fact that there is no difference in taxes for the same services, i.e. garbage pick up, highway repair etc...costs stay the same. Any services that remain with the town keep the same costs. Perhaps those with questions will decide to attend a meeting a actually get the facts instead of speculating.

Until the town decides it wants to make more money and not piss off Brookhaven residence. Raise cost of services to MBIV. What can they do about it? Nothing. Or get there own.

I don't normally post anything, but I had to make an observation: Since Sandman714 does not live in Mastic Beach, maybe he owns a couple of slum rentals. Why else would he post such an illiterate bunch of random words.
Forming a village is our greatest hope that the residents of Mastic Beach will enjoy a better quality of life.

You say it ain't gonna happen,I say(because I know the fact's)you're wrong, then you proceed to rant about your pick-up. So what is your point?

I have a sign in my yard and I'll be voting no for the Village. "Why do I have the sign?" you ask... because if we do become a Village, I don't want to be first on the list for code violations.
