I've seen the hand-painted billboards around. Kudos to the MBVEC for the openness and for spreading the word (unlike other committees that shall remain nameless).

Everyone needs to show up on FEB 2 to help this move forward! Let Mastic Beach become a village. antihamptons.com

I feel that this is nothing more than a popularity contest. And I believe that the village will just add more taxes to an already overly taxed area. I believe that this is nothing more than an oportunity for people with bigger visions of grander to get involved in politics. Anotherwords, its just a stepping stone for their own self interests and not the interest of the tax payer.

Anti-Politician has posted some inflammatory info. This Blog was posted to alert everyone that the MBVEC has a website to keep all those concerned informed. The incorporation effort is being shared by hundreds of volunteers, who contribute time, hard work and money. To state we are in a popularity contest is laughable. However, if you drive around Mastic Beach, you will see many "We Support Mastic Beach The Village" signs popping up. Whether or not you support a village, please come to our meetings, usually held first Monday of each month at MB fire house 7:00pm. This month's meeting is being held Saturday 03/06/09 1:00pm at MB fire house (Monday's meeting postponed due to bad weather). Everyone's opinion is respected. |

Let us open our eyes people talk to people who live in other villages get there opinion. Pay attention to the news. Focus on the real world and see whats going on it is and it will always be about MONEY aka TAX REVENUE!!!! AND YES CORRUPTION!!!!!!!!! DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GO DOWN THAT ROAD!!!!!!!!! ITS BAD ENOUGH AT THE TOWN LEVEL PERMITS FOR EVERY LITTLE THING WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO WHEN THEY MESS UP AND GO OVER BUDGET AND THEY DEMAND A 50% TAX INCREASE WE ARE NOT CASH COWS BUT THATS WHAT HAPPENS!!!
You write at a third grade level. Run on sentences, missing punctuation. "Their" is used to describe a person, while "there" is used for a place.
The only corruption I am observing is local government taking the hard earned dollars of Mastic Beach residents and not using those dollars to our benefit. I believe if all our tax dollars were added up and compared to what is actually returned to US in services, we would find we give more than we get. |

A-P,this is a chance to change the current system locally,to have your voice heard, nobody can "demand" anything without a vote.If you disagree with a proposal, you'll actually be able to stop it,or change it on the village level. If the majority feel the village is wrong,it can be dissolved, and we'll be back to where we are.Com e to a meeting and listen to what they have to say,or speak yourself,we'll listen to what you have to say.Get involved,it's a great group of people working for the betterment of this place! |

2 Or is it so someone can call themselves mayor? I don't think we need it. And let me guess. Those six jobs are town board? Or code enforcement? Ive run into code enforcement in other towns. There job is to write summonses to collect revenue to run the town. So taxes don't go up but I have to watch where I keep my boat or I get a fine. There not going to do anything about the drug dealers on Neighborhood road. There not the Police. Believe me I'm not happy with Crookhaven all the time. I.m still on the fence. |

The way I see it(and I've been to almost every meeting held on the subject)the idea of this village is to enforce law's ALREADY on the book's regarding absentee landlord's and their responsability's regarding their property's.I don't think they will be running around measuring the length of your grass or checking your boat, don't forget, this is a boating area, mainly blue collar. But would you like to know that the guy next door that rent's to anyone and care's not for the condition of his property or the community is going to have to answer to someone?Right now that's not the case. This area has a VERY high percentage of rental's(currently unenforced).I don't believe that the guy who live's in his own house is out on Neighborhood selling drug's,or robbing his neighbor's.If we can make it unprofitable to unscrupulous landlord's to do "buisness" in this area, then I see a way to improving this area greatly,to me,the village is the way to go.Not to mention the many other way's that we can collectively leverage ourselve's for the benefit of the area.I hope you hop off the fence, come down to a village meeting and see how it will benefit us all. |

To Whoopsing... Bravo! Thanks for your support.
We are almost done with our petition signing (we are collecting additional signatures to ensure well over the minimum 20% are verified. We only care about Code Enforcement. Once the village is voted in, we will enforce the existing laws to shut-down or get all derelict houses into full compliance. |

A nice older gentleman came to my door and I signed the petition. I believe in your right to bring it to a vote. Even though I'm still on the fence. I have friends in Islandia and they love it.But there taxes are crazy.
Brookhaven succeeded in closing down two houses on my block that were illegal. They are now empty and for sale. They have even been cleaned up nicely. Are they refusing to do it elsewhere? I sent e-mail to Kate Browning and that was it. Give me an address where they refused to enforce the town codes. |
Thanks Beach Man! The tax issue is understandable. But we are not going to be another Islandia or Patchogue. All we are going to do is enforce zoning. This should be a self-paying service. Town of Brookhaven is doing a little now, because they want to do a pre-election show. Where were they last year when we needed them?

Refused? No,I just think we're not too high on the priority list.Official's will readily admit that "Brookhaven is a big town, with problem's everywhere".MB is just going to help them out by lessening the burden they have to bear.I like the idea of having these issue's dealt with on a more local level. As for taxes, the thinking is no increase, the general fund part of your tax bill will go to VMB instead of Brookhaven, any fund's generated thru enforcement will stay here, instead of being dissipated thruout Brookhaven, any franchise fee's paid by LIPA,cablevision,Verizon,ATT,e tc.stay here,so as you can see, there will be an instant revenue stream. Also, any Fed. grant's available will be spent directly here, instead of being spread out town-wide,it make's alot of sense. Our problem(responsibility) will be to keep cost's in check, this will require all local's to participate in the decision-making processes the village will have to conduct.I see this as an exciting opportunity for everyone who care's about the area. |
This will be a self-supporting village! I expect the residents will support the elected mayor and trustees to keep all costs in check. There are also fees to be generated by building permits, mortgage transfer taxers, and code enforcement violations. The Village gets to keep the rental permit fees, and gets to do the pre-rental inspections to verify landlord is in compliance and has c/o's for any building changes.
The village can also institute a law requiring all convicted sexual predators to obtain a Village predator permit, that can ensure they are not living in a no-predator zone. Hopefully, we will have our entire village will become a safe zone, through creation of parks, and licensed day-care centers. |
