Right now it is 146 homes on a clustered property with approx 106 acres being donated to the TOB. We need to become a village so we have some say it what happens there and also that could be land donated to the VILLAGE to be used for a park, community center a place where kids can go.

To me that is the best of both worlds. This would be an impact to the schools but not an awful one plus with the donation of land there will be things that can be done with that land such as a community activity center, which is being planned right now.

Sandman, you proudly state you are from "Brookhaven" which could mean the town of, or the hamlet of Brookhaven. Since you do not claim to live here, why do you want to chime on on something that does not directly affect you? And, thanks for the negative stereotype of our area "armpit" is such a lovely description.

The people of Mastic Beach have worked together and a new village has been formed. The people of Shirley are also working towards the same goal.

I am turning 55 this year. I would like a decent apartment to rent in a 55 and over community. I looked at the new Fairfield development that was built, but, I cannot afford the rent they are charging. I wish someone would put something up that is affordable as well. I can't pay $400,000 for a Condo.

Sorry to say ma'am, but if the rents are out of reach in the Fairfield Condo complex, the selling prices will also be if a new one at the Links are ever approved.

As stated in my post above, you would need a minimum of $1325.00 BEFORE food, electric, insurance,(both condo AND if you have an auto), and selling prices were dropped last I had heard to $300,000.00.

It's not a viable alternative financially for you ma'am. Sorry.

There is another one just off Route 101 south. My grandmother lived there until she passed a few months ago.

Why would the TOB stop their Sanitation or Highway dept a year from now? Please answer this with an honest answer with actual facts. And of course not all section 8 are the problems here, the absentee landlords usually are with multiple code violations on their homes.Which is how their home became so affordable to rent. Yes some section 8 are to blame but not all.

Villages can protect property values by enforcing building codes and zoning. Sec-8, DSS homes are owned by somebody. The owner can be fined if the house is not kept up properly. Nobody is advocating "kicking out" anybody. We all just want everybody to make our area a nicer place to live.

Code enforcers will likely be paid, and will work part-time, which is the way it's done in most villages.
what with a question mark

I'd be more than happy to donate my time as a part-time code enforcer. Heck, I think I spend most of the time driving along our streets pointing out violations as it is...

Hope by next year I can ride my bike along the streets with a note pad...
