OMG--You say that this year but what about next year followed by subsequent years?Your tax base has been raised by approx. 9% and that will be on every tax bill every year.

We'll worry about that when it happens. You don;t think if we were still the TOB that the tax levy wouldn't go up. Taxes are always going up. Just wait till the new school tax is added in.

And please people when they go up don't blame the Village. You voted it in.

Hi all,

First post for me on this topic. I got my bill today too. But it doesn't look like the tax base went up 9%. The tax bill says the percentage of change is .97. That would mean it went up less than 1%.

Also, your tax bill is based on your homes assessed value. That's multiplied by the tax rate per $100 at 12.95, which is the same as last year.

So the bottom line is that your tax bill is almost identical, give or take a few dollars.

Sorry folks. I know I'm new to this forum posting, but I really feel in my heart that people should get the most accurate facts possible. This way they can make well informed decisions about how well the village is doing.

Personally, like I said on another topic, I'm still not sure about the village, but it's important to make fair judgements on everything in our lives.

Oops, sorry to all. I hope I didn't overstep my new poster status by writing too much.

Anyway, everyone have a good day tomorrow and since its Sunday, maybe we should all think about treating each other in a respectful manner and resolve our differences peacefully.

Ok. Busy day for me tomorrow. If I get a chance I'll check in.

Best wishes to everyone,
Milly

Everyone's home value went down. It means nothing, but is adjusted by the town every year based on their assessment rolls. The only thing that affects your homes real value is what other similar homes are selling for in your area. Also, all the homes damaged from the storm haven't help home values either.

But fear nor, I'm sure the village haters on here will blame the village.

The Residential Assessment Ratio is townwide (Brookhaven) and it has been .91 for two years. This year (2013-2014) it was raised to .95 which means the Town has decided your tax assessment for a house assessed at $2,000 equates to a value of $210,526 while it was valued last year at $219,780.

Interestingly, villages are required to use a State Equalization Rate of .89 which means the village assessed value for the same house assessed at $2,000 would be $224,719.

All this is smoke and mirrors because in actual practice, the tax rate you are paying is based on the only number that is not changing, in this example $2,000. Remember, the Town is the one who assessed your property.

To all my friends who trusted me to file your grievances, I wish you success.

Another thing most people didn't notice is the S.T.A.R. deduction went down from $540 to $510, so next tax bill from the Town in Nov 2013 will have a nasty surprise....a 5.5% school tax increase on top of the new budget tax increase.

Thank you for explaiining it. I knew it had to do with the TOB and not the Village. And rest assured all the nay sayers will blame the Village for the rise in school taxes. Can't get it thru their thick heads.

i am glad my taxes did not go up; however, i would like my services back. we are getting less service. also, this first half tax bill does not include any cars or other things that the village has purchased. they want to buy the nutrition center too . i can't believe that this will not affect the taxes. i am not as concerned with the taxes as i am with the fact that this nepotism is still going strong. i wish they would do things the right way.

What's this about? I see things moving forward. I saw the new sweeper the other day and it really cleans the roads good.

The village has been all around patching roads and putting new street signs up. Which by the way, I love the quaint look of them. It really makes it feel like a village.

My partner and I just had a small amount of construction done on our home. She went down to ask a few questions about any required inspections and she said that the people working in the office were very helpful.

She also said the office was very small and we both like the idea of where the new village hall is going to be.

We feel certain it will help with improving Neighborhood Rd. and will probably encourage more businesses to move in around it.

Anyway, just a few thoughts on the village. Keep the faith everyone and lets all work together to look at all the positive things that are happening now that we have a village.

Gotta go. Time to make dinner. This is Milly wishing everyone a good evening. So long for now.

Milly, this Forum is mostly trolled by anti-village zealots who are constantly bashing every good work the village tries to accomplish. The village is in the black (not in debt) andthe budget does cover the anticipated expenses for the year. The taxes have not gone up.

Since you are new, you will also hear the village was formed to take away the MBPOA properties. The truth is the village was formed to make MB better, and because the Town of Brookhaven let us down. The MBPOA has promised that once MB became a village, they agreed to turn the properties over so all MBV residents can use them. But, MBPOA decided to fight to keep the properties so the village went to court to enforce the deed.

I am pro village, and for that I am usually villafied.

Thanks for the info, Brady. You seem like a stand up kind of person. It's too bad there's so much negativity on this site.

It's either people who are against the village or about the marina properties. Really, what difference does it make who takes care of the properties?

If the deed says the village should be given the properties, then just do it.

Someone else mentioned how the village could get grants and make the marinas into something the whole village can benefit from.

Let's do it. I don't have any opinion about the MBPOA, but since the village was formed I've seen our community improve. So let the village fix up the marinas and beaches and do it for all the residents.

Let's give it a try!

Time to go. Have a good night, Brady.
