This is the type of accident that demonstrates the need for the seat belt law. If Sprouse had been wearing his seat belt, he would not have been thrown out of driving position when he hit the median, and may have been able to avoid the secondary collision that killed the Hollands. Deciding not to wear a seatbelt DOES put others at risk.

The opinion may not indicate a lot of compassion on the part of the commentator, or even a lot of intelligence. When I hear things like "People like you should be punished for the things you write" I thank God that people like you don't sit on the Supreme Court. If the driver of the pickup was breaking the law at the time of the accident (and it seems likely given the circumstances), then I agree that it is fitting that he also lose his life, as he is directly responsible for killing two people. I think that it's interesting that the State Patrol doesn't know what happened when the second man in the truck only suffered a broken leg. I'd think he would make a decent witness, unless his lawyer isn't letting him talk. Hmmmmm.

Family friend of the Sprouse, Please remember there is no going back. All four victims have my prayers. Talking bad about the three people who have died only victimize the family and friends left behind. The best thing to do now is to hug the ones we love.

Not sure what caused accident but the speed limit on 35 of 70 miles an hour is to fast most people are driving 80-85. I drive 35 all the time and am always amazed at how fast and careless people drive on that highway.

All the malicious comments on here against Sprouse seem to assume that he somehow intentionally or through carelessness caused this tragic accident. For all we know, it could have been a vehicle malfunction. Thank god all you hateful, vengeful people don't work in the justice department. Guilty until proven guilty, that's how it goes, right?

What gets me is how many people breeze right by me. They must be going 90+, and going that speed a flat tire, pot hole, or momentary loss of control can easily become catastrophic.

No safety device will allow you to survive an non-survivable accident. But you can be d.a.m.n sure that there is almost no chance of being in an accident where a seatbelt will cause a death and not wearing one save your life.

up here from MO murdering people on our roads?? great. I have been the victim of two of these young texters and at least am alive but lots of people aren't. I think in the future there will be so many dead from the unwise road decisions that is will make the dead in Iraq seem like a small number. What is the solution? Take the car, don't ever let them get another one?? There is no answer. Only the sadness this will cause many people.

My deepest condolances to both families involved in such a horrible accident that claimed the lives of three people. My heart goes out to all because of all of the negative remarks made about how the truck driver should have died and not the father and son. It was Gods choice also in this. May all of the family members live with happy memories of there loved ones. I pray that the family of the young man can forgive everyone that was so negative about what happened. May God heal all of you

fruit bat alert wrote: I will be very interested after the investigation is complete to find out what the pick up driver's speed was. My son was on his way home from "up north" and should have been in that area at the approximate time of accident. He decided to meet a friend for lunch in Duluth and didn't come home until 5. It could have been him or any innocent driver killed along 35 that day. Tonights news said the state patrol are hoping witnesses will come forth, but so far, nothing. How sad for the father and young son to lose their life so violently. My condolences to the wife/mother. It will be more interesting to see if the other person in the pick up will tell investigators what was going on at the time of the crash.Speed, Cell phones etc.
