Police chief suspended for smoking in patrol car

SOMERSET TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The township's police chief was suspended for two weeks without pay for smoking in a patrol car.

I find this totally ridiculous! A DUI & other important offender's rarely pay fine's that high.
I am a non-smoker myself but, come on, grow up!
Go after the true criminals, sex offenders or someone that hurts the community. This is a foolish way to spend time & money.

He should have worked for Coldwater Police. Gary Chester, the Public Saftey Director, was cuahgt on film and broadcast on TV having and "imapropriate relationship" with a subordinate. He just annouced that he'd retire and it all went away.

Are you surprised?? This guy has been around for a long time now. Do you not think that he may have a little dirt on most of the people in power in this town of Coldwater. This is how it will go. The people of Coldwater will throw one heck of a fit. Changes will have to be made to calm the public. Mr. Chester will have to go to take some heat off the city. But the city will want more. Maybe say, Mr. Stewart will have to go ect. But guess what? They will all be taken care of in the end. We the tax payer will be footing the bill on what ever deal is worked out for the people who will be getting fake axed just to keep their mouths shut because they know too much, and they won't go out like that.

For those of you that think the suspension was harse, you need to know the story. He was smoking with a minor in the back seat, against his will. In addition, if you knew this cop like I do you wouldn't say that he needed to be suspended for 2 weeks for this incident. You'd say he needed to be fired for lots more. This is only the tip of the iceberg
