I didn't realize that Dobbin was a ball player. You learn something new everyday. My opinions on the best basketball player from Celina is Jeff Arms. The best all-around athlete would have to be Brian Burchett.

Jeff Arms was far better than Joey Coe, who I agree is a great guy. Joey had a lot more press and was a great player too, but Jeff was the truest talent.

As far as the girls go, Jan Arms is one of the best players in Celina history as well (just as Steven Arms is one of the best football players). Of course Teia Ashlock Arms was also very good, as was Amanda Sharp.

Bryan Smith was also a good player. He played in the late 70's and maybe early 80's

I don't remember Bryan Smith. Was he at CHS?

Neil Bartlett was a good basketball player too.

The girls didn't get to be very competitive until the early 90s so they are easier to remember.

I well remember the boys going to the state with Joey, Jeff, the Reecer twins, Tracy, etc. That was a fun team to watch.

I also remember that the year the Byrdstown boys won the state, the Celina boys beat them by 30 points in the district tournament. What could've been!

I think Neil Bartlett's brother played when Bryan did. Bryan was from Union Hill.

Kelly Spivey!!! It was all in the SHOES!!!!!

Remember Coach didn't want him to wear the Black shoes cause they were attention getters...That's so funny...He wore them anyways!!!!

Freda Bailey, Jodi Sullivan, Linda and Brenda Brady,Anna Joyce Smith, Judy Boone were also a part of the time that Tammy Vaughn played. Tammy's mother, Mrs. Elsie Jo Vaughn was my mother's coach in 1935,36,37. Nelle Lynch and Nina Masters were members of that team.
Tammy V. and Anna Joyce Smith could both shoot great "hook shots". Freda B. could shoot 3 pointers all day long. There were no class brackets and the competition was great.

Your post has brought back memories. I remember mrs. Elsie Jo Vaughn would sit in the stands and keep her own record book. She knew what was going on. On one occasion, Mr. Teeples became so upset with his team that he kicked the ole black medicine kit. He brke his foot one time. Those were the days.
