Would be interested to know how many Polk School District Teachers send their own Children to school in other Districts or Private Schools? If you have knowledge of any please post so that a rough estimate of the numbers can be calculated.

Would be interested as to why Teachers in Polk School District send their Children to other school districts/etc, but feel ok with Teaching for Polk School District. As a professional with Polk School District, why do you chose to send your children elsewhere? You should be proud of your work and that of fellow teachers, enough to support the system with your own Children?

What about Polk School District Board of Education? Which ones of these members have children in the district? If you don't have a personal love for the system, as in a student in the district, what reasons do you have to care? Or to be passionate about the state of the District?

Why implement a NEW dress code into the system in January? Approximately 5 months into the school year? Polk county is a poor county, why would you ask the citizens of the county to purchase a new wardrobe this far into the calendar? It's insensitive and uncaring. How many School board members and teachers will be affected?

It's time to elect school board members who care about everyone, including the overwhelming majority of low income to poor. The others are sending their children elsewhere.

Also, when is it time to say, if this district is not good enough fir your Children; why should you be allowed to teach in this District?

This would be interesting numbers to see. I heard that the board has a lady on it that teaches in Floyd County. Does she have kids and if so do they go to school in Polk county. If not, she should not be allowed to be on the Polk Count BOE.
Dress Code is ridiculous.Families are still fighting to survive in the worst economy since the depression, but our board is going to vote in a dress code.

I hope they pass the new dress code. You people who can afford to allow your children to wear expensive name brand clothes is fine. But, what about the ones who can't? I remember when my kids were small. They called WalMart shoes ''Buddy Shoes''or ''Buddy Clothes''. I have grandchildren now..I wish my children had uniforms back them. Also, I hope they throw a certain type of shoe on the dress code list too. Kids make fun of other kids who don't wear ''Mall'' clothes/shoes. Perhaps it might save parents money.

How many members don't even have children? Now, I understand that someone can be an expert on education but until you have children of your own for whom you are responsible, you don't have a clue how decisions can affect them.

I've heard from students of all ages - the ones in high school swear that they won't go to school in Jan. and will do school online.

Even the younger kids don't understand why the clothes they have been wearing are such a problem.

Enough is enough. The fact is the current rules weren't enforced for whatever stupid reasons just like the other rules. This just seems like an attempt by some loser to impose their stupid ideas on everybody else. the school board needs to spend a day at each school before they start dictating any rules at all because they are merely listening to what their wives, children, buddies are telling them. I hardly ever see kids that look bad but them that work for the schools need to grow up and dress like they are there to teach kids not hook up.

People think this new dress code is so bad. When I went to public school we had to wear dresses. How would that go over today?

I think the biggest problem here is with these ulgy baggy-ass pants the boys wear. Also, the low riding pants {hip-huggers when I went to school} the girls are wearing..when they bend over/squat their ass is showing. Just about all the sweat pants has something written on the ass of the pants..or down the leg. I find it inapporiate to wear this type of clothing to school. I don't know if these boys/girls have been told NOT wear these type of jeans or not in the past. Also, I believe trench coat or long coat is Not allowed. I'm glad the school board made these changes..it could be worse..they could have said no jeans period. Also, I feel the baggy pants/long coat are a safety issue.
