A police officer and two suspects sustained minor injuries last Friday after one of those suspects reportedly tried to steal an Aragon police car.

According to a press release from the Aragon Police Department, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. when an Aragon officer stopped a vehicle on Portland Road at Oakridge Drive on numerous traffic violations and a suspicion of DUI.

According to police, a passenger in the vehicle identified as Tina Poole became belligerent and interfered with the officer’s questioning of the driver.

The officer then arrested Poole for obstruction, handcuffed her and put her in the rear of the patrol vehicle. He then continued with the traffic stop investigation with the driver stepping outside of the stopped vehicle.

Police said Poole apparently escaped from the handcuffs and found a way to the front of the Aragon police car. The officer then attempted to remove her, reports said.

It was then Poole accelerated to a high rate of speed, striking both the officer and the driver of the vehicle originally stopped by police, according to reports.

The other suspect,the driver of the vehicle that had been stopped, traveled around 25 feet on the police car hood before he fell to the ground, reports state.

The officer, who was still attempting to remove Poole from the police car, was dragged until he released himself as Poole sped away, reports state.

Rockmart police officers reportedly pursued Poole as she hit several mailboxes and a utility pole. The pursuit ended when Poole hit a ditch on Portland Road and Jenna Drive, about a quarter of a mile away, police said.

Police then restrained Poole.

The officer sustained only minor injuries. The driver of the original vehicle was taken to Floyd Medical Center and has since been released and placed under arrest for DUI. Poole was taken to a local hospital for injuries and was then transported to the Polk County Jail.

Good grief. I am glad the officer was not hurt any worse or the driver he had stopped for that matter. Wonder if the driver and Ms. Poole are still friends???

PolkFishwrap had a different name than the name I had in my article
I used the name that that was on file with Polk County Jail records..the name they booked her in with..the name that the charges are in..I don't know where fishwrap got Poole...There was an Alex Poole involved..that information is in my 10/17/2009 arrest report...
