As hard as it is to live through the floods, I am very proud of the folks of MO. You don'y hear them complaining like New Orleans did. They pitch in where they can, help one another, and get through it as a community..not a jungle..God bless you

Thanks. These are small farming communities and everyone tries to help each other out, when possible.

That is like comparing apples and oranges. Katrina killed 1,300 people. Flood water of 23 feet washed away thousands of homes in two states. Small towns in Mississippi were totally washed away. Over 600,00O people were displaced from homes and loved ones. Many could not return to their homes for months as the damage removed all neighborhoods and the infastructure of roads, utilities, and services.. The levees failed in New Orleans keeping flood water filled with human waste, toxic chemicals, and dead bodies of people and animals in it for weeks. Many square miles from Venice Louisiana to Biloxi MS were flooded and people there lost homes, cars, belongings, family. The estimate of financial damages were the highest ever for any disaster. People there are still not able to rebuild. I think comparing a flood on the MS river that happens about every 8 to 10 years and harms a few people and the biggest natural disaster in US History to make a remark about a certain group of people is a sad thing to say and think. Each and every American deserves sympathy when by nature their entire life is destroyed. Some people either have a poor comprehension of historical facts or lack any compassion for people who suffered in the biggest natural disaster in US history. I might add that very same water you mention will pass through New Orleans in a few days, so it isn't over yet.

I would think being derogatory about the people who suffered in Katrina (over a million in several states)is a really poor thing to do. I had better opinion of people in Missouri until I read this post. What are your trying to say and what does it accomplish? It shows a rather poor attitude about your fellow Americans who as much as any have worked hard to build America to the current standing it is, a great country with people who care for one another.

My sympathy goes out to all that have suffered in Katrina and any disaster befalling my fellow Americans. I keep America in my prayers that those who try to pull us apart by race, economic status, or location will gain no ground. A House Divided Falls. Now is the time for all Americans to come together and help one another especially while we are facing the threat of annialation from foreign terror and war.

You need to realize that your change of names does not disguise that you repeatedly post derogatory things about other people. I tell posters all the time people with half an ounce of technical know how can see your ISP address and know you are the same poster in a lot of posts derogatory about certain peoples.
I would think the good people in MO are disgusted with your repeated derogatory remarks about fellow Americans.

I am one of those americans who lives along black river in poplar bluff missouri and within 1/4 of a mile of our home we had 4 levees break....we worked as hard as we could and as long as we could to save what we had before we had to be evacuated...and yes it is my choice to live along the river...it is where i was born and raised and even though it is along a flood line it home to me..our community and town have worked hard the last 20 years to build up our levees and they have worked wonderfully until now...but sometimes there is just nothing you can do to defend yourself from mother nature, as i am sure the people in california can tell you about the wildfires or other areas of this country who have suffered tornadoes, ice storms, hurricanes, earthquakes or any other kind of natural disaster...we can not all live in the same place (where ever that may be where you are not in danger of something)....but during all the devistation we have seen in the past years in our country i have cried and prayed for those people and donated money to help them after they suffered their loss and some of the comments i have seen on here about our state or town not deserving any help because we choose to live here has really made me wonder about the compassion of people in our country....even at that i will pray that you will never suffer the kind of loss we have suffered in our town....and we will get through this because as the man from oxly said we are a small community where everyone pitches in to help each other and with that and GODS grace we will get through this...

I'm not disgusted at his remarks.

Frankly, 90% of the people you saw wading around in the flood after Katrina were either human garbage looking for an opportunity to loot, or incredibly stupid people who stayed behind despite the warnings. The other 10% were indeed let down by the government, but not the federal gov't or FEMA. 100% of the blame for lack of preparedness and failure to create an organized evacuation falls on serial idiot Ray Nagan for his failure to organize city resources such as busing to be used for evacuation purposes prior to the hurricane making landfall.

"Hey, a massive hurricane is about to make landfall on our city, which is a basically a bowl which is beneath sea level... what do we do?"

"I dunno.... race bait?"

Apparently the answer was stand around doing nothing, then blaming other people for your own ignorance and stupidity.

As bad as this flood in Missouri was, it cannot be compared to New Orleans. New Orleans was hit by a Hurricane then flood waters. They were left with no help for days before assistance came. Their areas were much more devastated than this flood. These houses are still standing in most places. They had complete neighborhoods and cities wiped out. Think about it. You have to admit that Fema and George Bush messed up on Katrina.

The people of california, who are actually prepared for disasters, know not to expect any federal help for at least a week if there is a major earthquake.

The only person who really messed up during katrina was Ray Nagan.
