never that was part of MOM's dowry , it was the china cabinet of the day , very expensive wood .. all trikets were use on the top that was the serving center of the time .. it did nothing else but serve that special dinner
my MOM was straight from Italy , but all Europeans of all countries had one
my POP even knew what it was , he was straight from Poland
If it's the same kind of dining-room furniture as we had in England, it was called it a 'sideboard', but another type with open plate shelves on top and a linen cupboard beneath is called a 'Welsh dresser'.
Sounds like you have an Italian national treasure, I bet your mum was a good cook too?

I hear they are going to add bribery charges too for attempting to butter up the police, DA, and judge.

Hey, there my Nordic friend, I hope the holiday season isn't putting too much pressure on you. Sometimes I think I'll be glad when Christmas comes and goes, and at the moment it's mostly 'goes'.
But I'm excepted to play the Santa role and not the Grinch so I'll just shut up and enjoy the season.

Glad to hear it Tally, work never hurt anyone especially youngsters who need a sense of responsibility as part of their upbringing.
Ah, to be raised by an Italian mother surrounded by delicious pastas and sauces, I would have died for that, instead mine was typical English fare with everything boiled for a month and sausages that when dropped would bounce to ceiling height - come to think of it the potatoes did the same thing.

I'm sure you're a jolly Santa! Most men don't find fun in shopping for gifts, especially in over crowded stores and parking lots.. it's understandable. lol
Same old pressures here.. finding places to hide things and the time to wrap them.
I have a new brother in law, haven't met him yet and no idea what to buy for him..(he's a Brit and a Protestant.. scandalous.. lol) Other than all this.. I'm happy to say, we'll be spending Christmas in NY with everyone. Mike's parents will be at my parents house for the holiday.
Will you be home for this holiday?

As you know, Virginia is now our home so yes I'll be spending the Christmas at home, also the daughter will be with us, but still working on her paper - so no relaxation for her ha, ha.
Your new B-I-L is probably C of E and if he's a true Brit he hales from the drinking classes, and cherishes the great British institution of the "Pub", while at the same time lamenting the loss of the pub Christmas scene since living in the US.:(

I hope you won't be greeted with a typical NY winter with all the delays at the airport that usually accompany it, especially when you're coming from a part of the country that rarely receives Arctic-like weather.

I'm trying to instill that in my boys. My oldest has a friend with a droid phone. I can't make sense out of why he would need that at the age of 9.

Uggh, term papers!
I don't know much about the new BIL.. he worked for Pfizer UK, but moved here 5 years ago.. they work in the same building.. she met him at a conference before he moved to NY, but didn't start dating til sometime last year. Tis a mystery.
Oh, last year two days after Christmas.. the Northeast storm shut down airports for 2 days. I love a good snowstorm, but wouldn't be fun waiting in JFK for cancellations with 4 kids and an irate husband. He needs to be back for work by Tuesday.
Didn't VA have a record snow storm last year? or was that the year before?
