c-town not that bad wrote: Interesting posts here. My experience living in Chestertown found it to be a charming little town. Washington College provides extra cultural opportunities (concerts, lectures) that might be missing from other rural towns, the downtown provides enough variety of unique little shops and restaurants to keep you busy but not break your wallet trying something new every week, and the river is gorgeous! Plus it is close enough to major cities like Baltimore and DC to allow for day-trips there while the strong zoning policies have confined more commuter sprawl compared to many other Shore counties. There are some difficult people living in C-town sure, just like in anywhere else, but there is enough of a tolerant population there as well that doesn't deal in drama and narrow-minded views to make the average person content. The crack trade is a problem but for bettor or worse it is pretty much a self-contained population and doesn't dominate the flavor of the town. They say it takes about a year for a place to start feeling like home, keep that in mind, but Chestertown draws you in much sooner. Anywhere you live, you have the power to make it a positive, interesting experience or to limit yourself to negativity. PS - Please don't let the scary confederate posts turn you off. While this is a caucasian-majority town, most people don't think it's still 1862 and enjoy diversity. Come into the 21st century my friends, join us! Have you seen the Tea Party?

There are a few that think just because they have money they are better than others. On the other hand, I know many people who have money and would be just as comfortable at a redneck party as the rest of us. In Chestertown, money follows money. Money talks, bull**** walks. You live in Dover and work in Chestertown? I guess you cannot find a job in Dover. Than your the B@## Sh%t.

This town is a little backwards it is really a nice place to live it just needs some help. Former Ctown Prisoner wrote: The people in Chetertown are rednecks and aholes. I grew up in that nightmare of a redneck dungeon. A bunch of drunken idiots live there. When I moved out of the place I felt like I was freed from jail. You have a small group of people who run the town and do whatever they want to whoever they want. Everyone wants to know everybody's business. It is a nice place to visit but you don't wanna move there....

I don't care who you are or where you are from, what color skin you have, what kind of car you drive or don't drive. I don't care how much money you make or what area of town you live in. It does not matter if your kids go to public school or private school, wear designer clothing or you shop at roses. It does not matter if you live in a fine house or a dinky apartment in the projects. Ever single one of you need to know that there is a God, and need to acknowledge we are broken and need Him. Seek Christ!

Everyone who lives in it should think about moving to West Virginia Why do all people make fun of people in West Virginia. I bet you have never been there or know anyone from there either. Being from the south everyone thinks you are dumb when you speak because you have a southern accent. How foolish is that. Chestertown offers nothing for people except a place for quiet and Washington College. Ellen's is a good place to eat but since Middletown De is so close shopping in Chestertown makes no sense.

Look at it this way, the property values have been very good in C-town for as long as I can remember. The public schools are fair. Racial issues are pretty low key much better than a lot of other places and most cities. Its quiet. There used to be a lot more bars and such but people have less respect now days and will ruin a free lunch making the bar biz tough. As far as Wash. College it is very lame. I have been to a ton of colleges in smaller areas and Wash.College is as lame as the town for not having clubs, concerts and other fun if not hip things to do. Too many liberals who arent from here wanting to make it California. There are rednecks, crack heads and busy bodies everywhere. Why Ctown rules, 1. Kept Walmart Out. Cheap Chinese poisonous goods and a walmart sucks money out of your town. Their part time low skill jobs dont really inject your town with cash. They are an eyesore as well as a hub for child predators. 2. No one who is born in a town wants it to change. Chestertown hasnt really in 30 years. I used to love Tempe Az. but it got ruined by every developer who could put a gap, starbucks, Abercrombie and so on in there. Crooked town planners killed it. There is more. Later,

Yes you have to leave town to do things but that's not a big issue unless you are all very short sited. I enjoy getting in the car to go shopping and other things. I pay to live in a quiet town. I have lived in NY, Mystic, New Haven, La, and a few other large cites. This is good. I do feel bad for those who can't intertain themselves.

That’s what Kent County became to me a time out from the rat race. Back to basics.. We do have some problems... Parents lack of involvement with the people they brought into this world. Responcability!! What there needs to be is involvement on a much larger scale.... It does not need to be said who is not participating in the raising of there children, you need only look at test score averages of the children of Kent County. It is not that the children of the county are not capable it is that they are not given the mentorship necessary for them to be long term successful... Again this is average. But look it up our schools are only graded better then Baltimore city and Prince George. Very sad. I am a product of Kent County and it took me years of hard work to catch-up to the average of the rest of the world. Kids need guidance and direction very day. Mentors.

I come here from far away. Chestertown is an elitest town full of haves and have nots. Rich Old People come here to hide and live out the rest of their lives after raking the middle-class in their former business'. Miss Fancy-pants and High-Brows are embraced. There is no middle-class. The low-income and poor are banned from sitting on their own porches or walking the streets. The police even took the guitar away from Tojo, the town's only bum, so he couldn't earn a living, and forced him to beg for his supper on the outskirts of town. The town spends more time keeping progress out than bringing it in. The mom & pop stores are closing... Restaurants and Stores gouge you with prices cause they know you have no-where else to go. NIMBY's rule in Chestertown. There's only one Bar in town and the police park outside lying in wait for patrons to exit, stopping everyone for anything. Recommended reading; 'Escape from Alcatraz'. It's a nice place to park your yacht, but for a good time..., don't come here...

I would move to WV from Chestertown, but that takes money. And I have none because there are no jobs here, the poorest county in MD. (There were FIVE help wanted ads in the most recent weekly paper.) Wish I knew that before I landed in this predicament.
