As the saying very bad sh*t always happen to decent folks.
The downside of winning the lottery is resentment, which can lead to murder or extreme brutality.
It's no uncommon for someone to be beaten to death, even if that unfortunate victim has 200.00 in his or her bank account.
But there shouldn't be any excuse, for killing someone.
When you murder someone, "oh gee that man has twenty bucks, lets kills that man."
To me that's just plain dumb ass notion of entitlement.
If you kill someone, you should pay for it with your life. A life for a life.
I don't care if people use greed or his / her own minority status as an excuse.

Obviously the unfortunate woman was looking after her own grandchildren.

what??? why, because she didn't take the lump sum payout and blow her winnings in a few months? how does that correlate to a mental illness anyway? perhaps we are dealing with a mental deficiency here.
and btw it sounds like this poor lady had a very generous spirit, since she was more concerned with her families future well being than with living it up and letting them fend for themselves.
Amen Liss. This Guy sounds like he is on the murder's side.

This is sad. According to the local paper she had broken up with him and yet he showed up to be by her side when the lottery check and picture was made. She could not get rid of him. Greed, greed....He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison!!

One other note, this lady was on welfare and according to sources, she bought one of these $20 tickets every week..she was quoted to that fact.. this begs another question... does someone on welfare need to be spending 80 bucks a month on the lottery?? Sad cause she got lucky and then this terrible person killed her! Money will help her family left behind but it certainly will not replace her in their lives! She might still be living had she not had the winning scratch off!! Something tells me he would never have came back around!

Thank goodness her grandchildren will still be taken care of. At least her family will have that small consolation. It sounds like this man was consumed by jealousy...surely he knew he would never get away with it. What an evil individual!
the lottery never solves all problems, it just gives new ones and magnifies the weaknesses and strengths that the winners have. I always tell people, the best money you could ever spend is to consult a reputable attorney about managing the money. We all do not wish to end up like Jack Whittaker or David Lee Edwards and allow our money to make us as opposed to us making the money.
