Homelessness - A First-hand Account

My husband John and I have been married for over 17 years, and have been homeless - with or without a vehicle to sleep in - for nearly half our marriage.

Glad to see you made it out of that existence. Southern Oregon is one of the toughest places to get a start in the USA. You finally did well when you left the area. Just as I did, and many others have done and are doing now. No budgets, no wages, no jobs. Nothing but welfare, disabled, and the elderly. And of course the pot growers and meth heads, cartel opium and pot growers and those that support them. Just today they had 15 vehicles broken into at motels in town. No cops or jail make them VERY brazen. Homeless are targets for meth head abuse. No one shows for courts, probation or parole, work crews, or pays fines. The paper said a woman was raped and no one came when she called 911 while the guy was still at her door and car. They never did come. Another woman with alzheimer's died when she wandered from home in her scooter in the heat. Cops refused to look for her or even call the search and rescue...then they say it's the budget's fault. Jo. County has fallen and I am VERY glad to have left it behind after 50 years. They love sex offenders there. Seen rapes go 3 generations with no arrest made. Never hardly ever charge them or make it stick. That place needs to fall in the ocean or something.

Yes they miss me, tell me to come back, but it's not worth going back for. Josephine county and especially 936 NE 10th is just a druggie home now with felons and sex offenders running around it unchecked. Just a few blocks from the elementary school and Catholic church too. The neighbors say their land value went down just having those people living there with their parole officers, sex offenders, child welfare workers, fighting in the yards, thieves running in and out the little access alley to Croxton St. They even go to the animal shelter on a regular basis to provide food for their dog instead of buying food over cab rides, pizza and drugs. The administration of Jo. County lets it all happen. They would rather close their eyes and just collect a paycheck than do a job well done. Then of course, the few who actually do their job can't hold the criminals when they jail them, again the fail of administration to properly run the justice system there. So the growing population of riff-raff will continue to breed and raise a next generation of druggies and thieves like their parents did. I definitely made the right choice by leaving when I did. No regrets at all :)
