Seems like the city of Cave City is cash flush again. They must have paid off the $80,000 they borrowed a couple years ago. So now they want to get into the real estate investment business. They want to pay up to $35,000 (nothing like publicizing your high bid) for a property that should be condemned. If they do get the property, they had better be prepared to sink another #200,000 in the money pit.

They think it would be a good place for the Chamber. According to a chamber board member, they aren't paying rent or utilities where they are now - so that would make them a great tenant for downtown? Supposedly the chamber people send tourists downtown to shop, so if you move the chamber people downtown, who is going to help the tourists find the chamber people downtown?

The community had better keep a closer eye on what the city wants to do. Why not let private investors take the risk with a development group?

Looks to me like somebody should have paid the city to take that place off their hands. I've looked at that building for an investment and it's a money pit.

Ten to one, Robert Smith will talk the city into letting his company remodel the building. At first it will only be $50,000 - but then "unknown" problems will keep coming up and the city will be into the building big time. Conflict of interest? In Cave City that is just a way of doing business.
guess what

The Chamber only promotes themselves. They don't mention downtown.
They get free rent, free utilities and the Convention Center claims to be loosing money so the chamber needs to go and the CCenter can save money on utilities. Ask the Chamber, "What have they done"? Show it, and the answer will be, Nothing.........Resolve the Chamber and Cave City can do something positive.

Come to the town meetings and become a team player in helping Cave City, you will not find out anything correct by fussing on topix. That we have enough of and it leads to nowhere. I hope to see you at the City Clean up in April and make a positive statement. We need that around Cave City, it is easy to sit back at home and fuss, how about coming out and help. I don't care for many of the people at the town meetings, I think there are still some out for themselves, but am willing to push forward for the betterment of the community, if I am there I can have a say it what is happening. Come and join me.

This is just another way to get the tourist to cross the tracks into town hoping they will spend money at the junk shops or lousey eating cafe. Also I agree that someone will profit that gets the work to repair the dump.

They would also get a chance to the citys finest as they drove past the park with the shirtless boys hanging out looking so cool.

Lack of communication between all parties involved: Chamber, Tourism, Downtown, and City Council. Some people just want face time in local paper. Cave City lacks true leadership as always. Everyone is looking out for their own self-interest as usual.

First off, that building is a true money pit! I do not understand what the attachment to a piece of rubble is? Robert Smith is a definite conflict of interest and a member of CC good ole boy club. He wants to fix it up with donated, from his company, materials. And he arranges the sale without going thru normal channels. Something like this should be done as a city referendum, with citizens deciding if this is how they want their tax money spent! I for one would have voted against this as I want my tax money used for something good for the town. What is this town coming too? How dare they spend my money on this piece of crap. Clean up the town, this is throwing money away in the wind.

There was no vote to buy only a vote to investigate.

Yep, people realized they could save a few hundred dollars by traveling to a big volume dealer and took their business elsewhere. It didn't used to be that way. People were proud to support their local economy but not anymore. Of course, I believe people have that right but it comes at a cost.

Another sign of a failing economy in Cave City: everything is vacant or for sale.

Instead of revitalization - the leaders need to concentrate on keeping the doors open on the existing businesses.

They were the biggest ripoff ever, anyone whe dealt with them will tell you so. Would tell you the repair was going to be one price and after they had your vehicle price would end up several times higher.
