Holy cow,$650,000 to astro turf the high school football field?!? plus $20-$30 annual upkeep? and it only lasts for 10 years? WTF West Plains? If you figure on having on average 5 or 6 home games a year, that's like $30,000 per game! lots of local businesses are throwing money in the hat for this project, and lots of them are setting up payments to do it. Isn't that going to tap most of those businesses dry when other school programs need their support? FFA, choir, band, rotary, etc.... This thing I'd going to have a huge butterfly effect in the community. I think the relay for life that just occurred is a prime example. All the usual supporters were tapped out because if their commitment to the field. I hope this stoop turf has some kind of magic powers to make the worst team in the district play better and sell a crap load of soda's and candy bars, cause $30,000 a game is a lot of dough.

Hey Rocket, Your the idiot here. If you would have read whatit said in the paper you wouldn't be blowing smoke. There is almost NO upkeep it's safer for the kids and in ten years ( or So ) it can be replaced at less then half the cost. Read up on things before you go to running your mouth. And if the local busniess want to spend there money this way it isa theres to spend.

I have some beach front property north of WP. If you believe what the school admin. said, this should be an easy sell. They are spoon feeding you what they want you to think. Like any rug if you never groom it it gets hard and nasty, takes special equipment to maintain and since they promised everyone and their dead cousins that they can use the field, then it will need extra grooming. Average cost is 5000.00/yr. If it gets used as much as they promised then it will cost more.

Let's count the lies.
1. We won't commit to putting it in until we have the money. Pledges are just that not real money. Only 125,000 in real money. Taking out loan for the rest (tax dollars). Booster club has no worries about money because they are not libel if the PLEDGES don't come in (tax dollars backing them)

2. Every one can use the field for their events. When? If you believe them then the field will be used 24/7.

3. 23% fewer injuries than grass. Most studies indicate that turf is not any better than grass and can be worse if not properly maintained. When was the last time the school properly maintained anything?

4. See #1 No school (Tax dollars) money will be used. Wow, interest free loan!

This has already taken money from other just as deserving groups so it is nothing but robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I bet it will not be to long before R-7 comes begging for a new tax bond for something else, so they can cover their a****s on this one.

You know somethings change for the better, for instance, I played on that field when it wasn't more then A few years old it was either hard and rocky or muddy and rocky. And you really should look into these new types of turf grass, The up keep and the getting A little burn has almost been fixed. A spained ankle from stepping on one of the thousands of fecue clumps is much worse. Also this is the 21st century, And why can't those other groups that you say there taking money from go get there own donations ? why because there parents are to lazy or don't give A shit enough to help there own kids. So grow up ,It's NOT going to cost the tax payer one penny!

You must have played on the field in some other life time than I did. "hard and rocky" , "muddy & rocky" wow , your such a little girl. I've played on that field many times, been thrown down and have thrown down others many times. Amazing myself and people from other schools that have played on our inferior field made it. Tell ya what why don't we all hey together, go to bed bath and beyond and get a few semi trailer loads of pillows to lay down on the field? God forbid someone gets a Jersey dirty, or stubbs a toe. This is a huge mistake folks, why can't you see that?

Look...Mr. Negativity, if the school board and superintendent approved this deal, it will work out. They're smart people.

The paper said the school had taken out a 1 million dollar loan from Community Bank for the artificial turf. Seems like a lot to me when school funding is down and class rooms go without.

Look the school took out A LINE OF CREDIT LOAN to pay for the field, The booster club is going to make the payments and interest. All the money the booster club gets goes into the school account so that there CPA makes sure everything is on the up and up.Its know different then aking out A loan to build A house ,Same thing LINE CREDIT !And as far as the other sports, Let them form there own booster club ang raise there own money for whatever they are needing! This field is not ONLY for football people.

Yet another uniformed fool making them selves look silly, the school got a million dollar line of credit they did NOT borrow that much, please get you facts right before opening your mouth/keyboard.

when i played here we had a amazing record and played on the regular field no crying about injuries. man up if youre team cant play now then why should the city baby u pansies. The should let the cheer team n maybe vollyball girls get in there n put on the football uniforms im sure they wouldnt be any worse and prob need alot less teat sucking to make them feel like real players. far as booster club apparently rolling in the dough to make payments if they got that kinda cash to blow it should go to the schools main fund this school wayyyyy overvalues their football team. i think the only reason theres so much money the clain to be able to pay is cause of the parents who own business or have big bucks basicly pay to get there kids on the team that would explain why all the starters suck you all need to think about actually winning a game before you think anyone should give you a new turf. back in the day during games and parades the zizzer teams could hold there heads up with pride cause they could win.

Amen Grem! rewarding the worst team in the district with a 600,000 gift is beyond my comprehension. Especially when it was never an issue to any of us that played. Its a total joke. Oh, btw: love the fact that the new field is going to have the ESPN radio station logo on it. Rather than the zizzer logo. Maybe we can rename the team to the ESPNers.

I wish people would stop complaining and solve their problems by lining up against the people who want the turf on the line of scrimmage and see who comes out on top. Pretty sure it'd be me every time.
