Long before we went into Vietnam, the French were fighting there to hold on to their colony.
DeGaulle asked Eisenhower for nuclear weapons to use against the Vietnamese under Ho Chi Minh, but Eisenhower said no.
LBJ got us fully involved in Vietnam with his Gulf of Tonkin resolution.
Kennedy had sent a few thousand marines in there, but was considering bringing all of our forces out.
Antiwar protests are nothing new. This Catonsville Nine thing is small potatoes compared to the draft riots in NYC during the Civil War. Back in the Civil War, wealthy men could pay poor men about $300 to replace them in the army.
The sad part about war is that sometimes you just have to fight.
Jesus said that the ones that live by the sword will die by the sword.
He didn't say to go and burn the records down at the draft board.
