Why is it that there are over 50,000 tax paying people in Boyd County KY & the schools can't afford crap!!!!???? As if it isn't bad enough to have to buy school clothes & supplies. The cost of schooling is just way out of hand. Every time I turn around I am having to buy something that the school can no longer afford. How is that? What are the schools doing with all the money us tax payers work hard for? My main concern is the children that get left out because they can't afford it. Could someone please give me their opinion? Am I wrong?

you are right, it has been over 27 years since i graduated from bchs, but on some bills i pay, there is a school tax, which honestly we shouldn't have to pay no taxes for the schools, as you was saying our taxes is going towards crap that bchs can't afford, it should be if they can't afford it then don't get it and don't expect the public to pay for it.

It seems like every time you turn around they are needing something. Anymore all the school supplies is breakfast & lunch other than that the parent have to buy everything all the supplies, lunch money, snacks, field trips & more. It is just getting way outta hand. I have seriously been thinking about home schooling. Just think of the money us parents could save.

Oh, don't get me started. I had to pay book fees for three kids at one time. After paying the fee, I found out that in one class the books had to stay in class because too many kids were not returning the books at the end of the school year so they did not have enough.????? I pay a book fee for a class but my child doesn't even get a book? Kids who qualify for free meals do not pay book fees.????? I had to stagger the book fees since I could not pay all three at once. One child was not allowed to have a book because I did not pay the fee. He said that was fine because he always finished his work in class and MOST teachers were good about letting them use a book in class if needed. Please note, I said "MOST". One teacher had the gaul to contact me at work because she was concerned that I hadn't paid the fee and that my child had to sit in class with no book and was getting all "0's" because he did not have a book when there are other kids in the class who did not pay it but they have a book because their parents don't work. There are so many things I can argue on this, this message board couldn't even hold it all.

I know how you feel!! the schools supplies list I had said to buy certain things for the teacher? Why should any of us have to pay for books they need? Again, where is the our school tax money going to? What happened to this "No Child left Behind" crap? I feel like they are more focused on money & materials than our children's education!! I am glad I'm not the only parent that feels this way... Thank all of you for commenting on this!!

I remember one time my child had a tube of tennis balls on her list. Why tennis balls? The floors was waxed over the summer and they wanted each kids to have four tennis balls to put on the edge of their chairs to keep the floors nice. Really? Needless to say, my child was NOT the only one with tennis balls on her chair.

That doesn't surprise me!! That is just ridiculous!! I wouldn't have bought tennis balls for their precious floors!! But stuff like that is what I'm talking about. Thank you for you comment:)

I am seriously worried about the education my children are receiving, even in elementary school. We all know that boyd co. is good for passing students on whether they know the curriculum or not.
Just this week I had a situation with the teacher about my kid "supposedly not knowing what they were supposed too" I had worked with my child on it all week, and my child informed me that they had tried to tell the teacher for several days that they knew what they were supposed too, but the teacher "did not have time for my child" WTF?!! Needless to say, I took my child into school and had a talk with the teacher. I am unsatisfied!

Well which way is it? Passing kids that do not know the curriculum or not passing kids who do? Nnn you just contradicted yourself. I am a parent of two kids in a Boyd county elementary school. My children do awesome and I am very pleased with the teachers.

4 of the school board members are close friends. The only reason they are there is to go on trips! I know this for a fact. And to
See what they can get for
Their own kids go to a meeting and watch one of them talk! She talks about programs she wants her kids to be picked to be in!! It's crazy

Oh I believe it "your"!! This is something that I wanted to share to. Last year my sons teacher made a video of what was suppose to pics of the children in class. The teachers daughter was in the class to & all the pics of the class was either just her daughter or her daughter was in the pic. & she gave a copy to the parents. I just think its funny really. They way some people are. I love my kids & I want the best for them to, but I would never leave a child out for any reason. I would do my best for any child as I would my own.

you know it is sad when teachers and board members goal is my kid this, my kid that, well wake up it isn't about your kid, it is about all of the kids, as far as which kid gets passed and which don't, the don't leave a child behind act was passed sometime ago, rather teachers are honest enough to go by it, well then they aren't going by things like they are suppose to, if they aren't doing what they should they don't need the job.

so just because coaches, teachers, sunday school teachers, ministera do it, you think it is ok for the kids of boyd county to be done that way, we didn't have to buy hardly anything in school when i was in school , if the individuals who are in authority keeps sending list, get me this get me that, you might as well say that they are going to milk the kids and parents for all they can get, and ok, it is not ok. the teachers, principals, coaches and ministers you speak of needs to grow a backbone and buy their own supplies and quit taking advantage of the kids and their parents

No but parents paid incidental fees. Which took care of the supplies the students need. Teachers can't pay for our kids supplies. It's our duty as a parent. Just wait til high school

I understand what you are saying. My opinion there are 20 more/less kids in a class & all those kids bring all the supplies on there list that is a lot of supplies for that class. Do they honestly need that much supplies? & another thing paper towels, wipes, kleenex etc. Why can't the school supply that? I can remember in school my supplies list was paper, pencils, crayons, glue, ruler & scissors. Back in the day they taught with the simplest things. Why can't they do that now? Nothing is ever simple anymore. lol Maybe I'm a lil old fashion:)
