Who was driving? That looks like a pretty out of control driver. We all know how sucky it is to cross that bridge, but to jump the walkway and hit the side you would have to be acting like an idiot. I smell a young male driver. I may be wrong, but I can't wait to find out.

that bridge is like driving on ice, year round.
It pulls the car all over it, unless you use slow speed and tight wheel control.

When it was inspected last year it had a rate of 2, Who in their right mind would even attempt to drive over that bridge?... I thought that bridge was closed, I guess I was wrong...

I'm thinking almost all traffic on that bridge is by local drivers, who should know the condition of it along with how slippery a metal grate bridge is especially when wet. The bridge is in bad shape but lets just use common sense when crossing and we should be OK.

now it has to be closed down! sad it took a car accident to do it, but at least it was not due to collapsing- i am new to the area and had no clue it only made a 2 out of 100- should not have been open in the first place

Rumor always had it that when that bridge was built, the workers put the metal grates in upside-down. That's why your car always shimmied back and forth while you drove across. I don't know how true that story is (I've heard it several times), but I definitely don't doubt it.

Sure, everybody BLAME THE BRIDGE and not the STUPID A%$ DRIVER ! Arrrggh, typical "not my fault" American reaction. Yes, the bridge is unsafe, but I am sure this idiot was at fault. The bridge didn't pull out in front of them causing the accident!!

I think anyone who is bothered by the closing of this bridge should sue the driver for the stress.

The bridge is fine it is the driver. Last year they did work on it to correct the structural defects (crumbling support) and true a car with cheap tires tends to wonder quite a bit but almost everybody knows and slows down. It is a little worse on a bike. I guess it only takes one idiot

I Have Heard the same thing about the upside down grates. I think the workers were drinking at Metro and John's while the bridge was being constructed.

I thought the same thing. But after looking at the picture of the SUV the items hanging from the mirror seems to be a young female. Either way they are very lucky their guardian angel was with them. They came very close from going over the edge and then we would be reading of a much more tragic story. Hope all recover quickly and learn a HUGE life lesson.

I predicted a collapse and then a run to Karoly. I bet it will be reopend in less than a month. They just asked Coplay council this week about detour information and permission. Only in America ---

THey didnt fix the structural problems, they fix it every now and then when a truck comes up through dark town and doesnt have the clearence and hits the bridge. Thats what they fix, that bridge is shot. STOP BASHING PEOPLE, BE THANKFUL NO ONE DIED

You must be some real pervert to be going out and smelling young male drivers. By the way it was a woman on a cell phone, who would have guessed that.

Every time there's an accident someone has to blame it on something other then themselves! With all the idiots on the road today no wonder there's so many accidents. Drivers are too young, stupid, high, or drunk to be behind the wheel (oh yeah and inexperienced & reckless). Then everyone cry's, why is my insurance so high! You know it's a metal bridge, you know it's wet out, but you still drive fast, like your going to miss your flight. Well that's what happens and that's what you get. Smarten up before you get killed or kill someone! Commonsense, a thing of the past.
