Glad to see all were ok and no one was injured. I am also glad to hear the dog made it out ok as well. I am truly sorry about the urn though. I would be devestated, since I have my mothers ashes home with me.

I'm very glad nobody was hurt, the sentimental items are just not replacable.

I hope she had renters insurance. I didn't see anywhere in the article where it said it, unless I missed it. All too often people don't have renters, nobody tells them how important it is.

Good luck to this family!

Since the article didn't address this, I'm sure the woman has somewhere to go. Is there anything else she needs?

We were in Catty last night and saw the house after the fire was out, it looked completely gutted. My heart goes out to you, I am SO sorry you couldn't retrieve your husbands ashes but I am happy you got your pup out okay. I hope you and your family will be okay.

If anyone finds out if donations are being taken for the mother or daughter, please post.

My condolences as well. Hopefully they will yet recover her husbands ashes, I cannot imagine how heartbreaking that would be. Perhaps he was watching over his family that they were not home when the fire started...

Another reason not to smoke! And yes Renters Insurance is cheap - under $75 a year - and worth it.

In response to RonMania of Easton - who said anything about smoking? I believe the fire is "under investigation" meaning the cause of the fire is unknown.

And Sick of the City from Northampton - Little faith in Catty's Fire Dept??? Are you volunteering any of your time, risking your life for others?

Who said anything about smoking?? Fire is "Under Investigation". Means the cause of the fire is unknown unless you have some kind of inside information which we are all unaware of.

Where was the red cross?
Nowhere to be seen! They are suppose to help fire victims get them money for meals and clothing and shelter.
Thanks for not showing up! I will never contribute to you again!

Some of you have been asking about making donations to my aunt, Mrs. Long. Thank you very much for your kindness! We've set up the arrangements through my church. Make the donation payable to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and put "Bonnie Long" on the memo line of the check or enclose a note with her name. Send it to:

St. Paul's Lutheran Church
417 Howertown Road

No. The owner of the property is named Ravi Shankar, but he's not THE Ravi Shankar. I don't know why they linked to the musician from the article.

I thought PA law requires that human ashes be buried.

I've never heard of such a thing. Actually, there is a company that can make diamonds out of a loved one's cremains.

When our upstairs neighbor set fire to the apartments by falling asleep while cooking, our apartment was destroyed too. The Red Cross couldn't do enough for the woman who started the fire, but they never once approached us, the real victims of the fire, to see if they could help us.

I haven't donated to them since.
