Lehigh County Ag Society names president

I don't mean to be negative and horrible but all of these people in the ag society -- I know they are mostly 100 yrs old and have been here forever -- but they need to OPEN their eyes and do something with the fairgrounds and farmers market. There's so much potential there and yet the reality could not be worse. Most of the food there is absolute crap, and that attracts all the crap people who hang around. The entire grounds is a dirty eyesore when it could be a beautiful unique asset to the West End and the entire LV.

I have know Bill since the days of the Bi-Centennial, and Bill is a good man, and "dee" write to him and tell him what you think, if anyone could help it will be Bill. I agree with you with all you said and if his hands arent tied too much I am sure he will try to fix things over there...

I shop every week at the market. I buy from Mr. Bill's Chicken, Clover Farm Meat, Heckenbergers seafood, Red barn produce for over 30 years. What is crap about these products. Do you have a case or are you just slinging mud?

Allentown Fairiground property is a goldmine that is underutilized and undermarketed.
It would be wonderful to fully restore the Grandstand. Find a use for track or infield as some form passive lawn park or dog park.
Improve or build convention space there for events. Continue improvement and expansion of Farmer's Market.
Improvements in asthetics of property. Painting, paving, tree maintenance, tree plantings, etc.
The opportunities for this parcel are endless and they could continue to meet their mission to host fair and preserve agriculture as part of regional society, but the funds are not and that is the key to this organization.
Ag Committee must reach out for greater volunteerism to assist in maintenance of the property, and to assist in building the programming of the organization toward year round events at this facility.
It is underutilized. The whole secton of Allentown from 17th & Chew to 20th & Chew to !7th & Tilgman to 20th & Tilgham should be mastered planned out and developed for mixed zoning for commercial, retail, residential, and special purpose zones. If there is any area of Alletown that could become vibrant as a mini retail/entertainment zone it is these 12 square blocks.

Mini-retail entertainment zone? I will assume that you do not think there is already a glut of retail in the lehigh valley to begin with? And the fairgrounds farmers market is one of the greatest places to get fresh, wholesome food. Since good, wholesome food can actually be measured in its quality, my remark is based on fact, not personal opinion. The allentown farmers market -- along with the entire fairgrounds area -- is fine just the way it is. Just view it as a historical area ... and area to be PRESERVERD, not DEVELOPED!

It's now the new year for the Fair and I'm sure you-all are now really gearing up for August. I grow prize-winning eggplants so I am familiar with the work it takes to make the Fair a reality. Do you have need of volunteers in the office thoughout the year?. I note no mention of volunteers on your website. If you would be interest in pursuing this, I would be available once a week for four hours or so, preferable in the late morning - early afternoon.
