J, just a question. Do you deal with the rooming houses in the city. I know of a huge rooming "hotel" above a bar with many rooms. Plumbing fixtures are dismantled in the bathroom, holes in walls, doors not properly installed and off the hinges, ect, ect. The list goes on from what a lady who lives in the building was telling me. I referred her to you, but I got the impression she didn't want to go through the process of contacting your association. The owner of the bar and building is a total scumbag, allows criminal activity to go on, women with multiple children living in one small room, and she said he refused to fix anything. Also said that she thinks he is paying someone off. See if you can do anything about this because the place is zoo. Maybe you can contact me somehow if so you I can tell you the name of the establishment because I am not posting it on this message board.
Do they pay rent to live there? If they do then they are tenants and we deal with it. Even if the place is in that type of condition I would like the info. Send anything you need to me at my email address for the association: juliankern@taofallentown.org

What a terrible situation for anyone to have to live in. Why are these conditions allowed to persist? Inspectors should be brought in and the landlord or owner should be forced to make repairs ASAP. No one should have to live in such squalor. Shame on the owner. The least he can do is to make sure there is running water and tenants can safely lock their doors. How do these owners get these loopholes? If he's paying someone off, than that person is obviously just as accountable.
Yeah it's a big problem here in the city. You be surprised what some people are living in and nothing is being done about it. Some of the city inspectors are screwed up to and don't do their jobs correctly. The current inspection program the city has sucks. Suppose to be every 5 years which I know of a few rental properties that haven't been inspected in 10+ years. Theres too many rental properties for the inspectors or the city to handle unless they hire more inspectors. If the people living there make a complaint to the city they should inspect it but most are afraid to do that cause they are afraid the landlord will evict them.

I am sure some landlords pay off inspectors and city officials but without solid proof theres nothing that will be done. I know of one Allentown landlord who is corrupt with the city. I am 99% positive he is. However until I can prove it the FBI wont investigate.

I am sure his comments have already helped many people realize there is help out there to fight against the growing number of slumlords we have in the city and they make a huge impact, loser. You have a blog about blighted properties and seem jealous that this man is doing more then you are to help people. Looks like you need to get a life, if that is possible. You are the reason why things are so hard to change on the topic of landlord\tenant issues.
I am sure he is jealous of all you little girls who only venture into the issues digitally. I'll give you something to digitize. Another Allentown savior, as notorious as Tommy Smegma.

Only venture into the issues digitally? Our association is involved with the city and the city administration. Ken the V.P. goes to almost every council meeting. We have done a walk and talk with the mayor which was on the news. There are a bunch of organizations in the city who are aware of us and our giving our information out to people with landlord problems. We go out to properties of renters who come to us with problems and we check them out. We talk to the renter about their rights. We document the situation as well as take pictures and video. We are currently working with a few renters who are having issues with their landlord to resolve the situation. We have a meeting coming up with the mayor as well.

So I dont know where you are getting "I am sure he is jealous of all you little girls who only venture into the issues digitally."

Before you say something you should check into what we really do and not assume.

We are fighting to get these rental properties up to code and get the slumlords to be accountable for their actions. Only people we are helping is the renters who rights are violated and the home owners who dont deserve to have their property values drop because of some cheap scum landlord.

Now that you mention it. You are probably right. I use to live in that neighborhood. I never been in Jabber Jaws or the apartments above it. I have been wanting to check into that place cause the other day I heard some stuff from someone walking down the street in the area. I just looked up the address and oh look who owns it. One of the slumlords we have listed. Great! This should be interesting.

Homes were built for residential purposes not commercial use. Every six months there's another bunch of pork chops squeeezed into a 2 bedroom house destroying the neighborhood. Charge 3000 per unit per year to keep the slugs far from here

Very, very doubtful. You see although I have complained in the past about high property taxes and even higher home prices, it has come with a HUGE advantage.
I'm not being a racist anything, I'm white and proud of it. I speak English and don't ask for a hand out or for anything special because of my race. I take care of the things that I WORKED hard for and respect other people and their things.
If a certain ethinc group act like a bunch of self entitled pigs whom are unwilling or in many cases unable to learn the spoken language the land, that is their issues not mine. I nor my neighbors should have to conform to YOUR ethenic backround, remember you aren't the only ones here. ALhtough most act like they are the only ones entitled to any and everything.
Allentown, a once beautiful and nice city has been over run with the Spanish locust. Don't believe me or think I'm being racist one only has to drive around the town to see how bad it is.
So, yes the burbs don't want them, I like to keep my things kept well and have a nice neighborhood.

As the Spanish people gradually progress, they are starting to move into the suburbs. Look at Lower Macungie and their change in demographics. You can type your white man played out nonsense til your fingers swell up. That will change nothing;). My name states the truth "Your gonna Get em'" and their culture. So get used to it and learn to like it or not. But one thing is for sure you are GONNA TOLERATE it. Or you can simple pack your belongings and move deeper out of the suburbs. Good luck with your soon to be or if not already new neighbors and happy holidays. Feliz Navidad!

Spoken like a true Spanish slug. Some will move it, I agree but it won't be the majority. The culture of the slugs will be their own downfall. Spanish speaking garbage will mostly stay within Allentown. Its your culture to be a non working slug. Again, thank you high home prices and taxes. NOw run along and eat your beans and rice, and by all means be sure to do your Christmas shopping at a local pawn shop. Low class.....

Slumlords have nothing to do with what race you are. Slumlords rent to white, hispanic, black, etc. This topic wasn't about race it was about slumlords and blight. The senate is now looking into starting a slumlord tax for these landlords. Blight affects the whole city and brings more crime. So you can thank the slumlords for being part of the crime in Allentown.

which is the problem. If you want to improve Allentown revert homes back to single family dwellings. Owner occupied too, that way those living there will be proud of their community

I agree its part of the problem but not the whole problem. It's okay to have some apartments and rental properties but the landlords need to keep care of them.
