Catasauqua school board OKs $10 million bond issue

Catasauqua Area School Board unanimously voted Tuesday to borrow nearly $10 million for school renovation and facilities expansion projects that will require a 2.03-mill tax increase.

This is a call to remove all members of the school board, they just don't not get it. The taxpayers in Catasauqua, North Catasauqua, Hanover Township Lehigh County cannot afford increase in taxes to build unneeded renovations in the middle school. This is out of control.

I just want to know how many elderly are going to move from Catty because of one of the highest school taxes in the county and per capita per student..it is totally out of hand..why should I have to pay for the failure of their pension funds a few years back when the taxes were increased...and now this...

FYI- no renovations to the Middle School. It was just renovated two years ago. It is an addition for transportation which is currently occupying an area that could be used as a playground.

Read it again, moving district offices to middle school. You don't call that renovations. If they would have not have build high school out of district they would have district offices in high school. Another mistake. You cannot locate you district school offices out of school district. This school board is better than a 3 stooges film.

If someone is affected by this vote and has valid points or questions, why not voice them at the meetings rather than sit back and read about results later ?

ABE landing strip keeps taking land from Catasauqua.
Everytime this Micky Mouse airstrip takes a home, those taxes are gone forever.

So, ABE landstrip is free from paying taxes, they take land from the tax rolls and guess who makes up the difference?

Why not move out?

The place is cruddy, noise and crime-ridden anyway.

Wawa moved out, it's owned by indians now.

The iga is overrun with foreigners.

The 'raceway market' is infested with A-rabs

Front street is a major crime wave.

The police dept is a joke-and -a half.

Hills restaurant is in the twilight zone all together, they charge 4 times what anyplace else does.

Catasauqua keeps shrinking while ABE landing strip continues to gobble up property using taxpayers dollars,removing these homes from the tax rolls forever.

WHY..........in the name of ALLAH would anybody want to LIVE there?

I guess the taxpayers after the new high school mess, have decided to give up with trying to have the school board began any form of fiscal management.

School board does not run the school system in Catasauqua, the adminstration does, which is a joke.

Are you kidding me????? You're going to sit behind your computer and make a blanket statement like that when I would wager you've never even been to a board meeting. I attend the meetings and I am usually 1 of 2 members of the public there. Maybe you should voice this dissent at a board meeting instead of sitting anonymously behind a computer and spewing hate.

It sicken's me to see that my taxes will be going up again. Every year they go up. When is it going to end? The tax base in the Catasauqua and North Catasauqua school district is not going to increase in size to compensate for the increases. How are the residents on fixed incomes going to afford the continued tax increases? Any ideas how to get blood from a stone?

And have you gone to the board meetings and voiced your dissent with a valid argument? There is absolutely NO parental/resident involvement at these school board meetings. If you want to see parents and residents affect change in a district, go to a Bethlehem Board Meeting. Or go to a Parkland board meeting. That's involvement. Not whining after the fact because you didn't attend the meeting and you don't like the decision that was made. If you don't like it, do something active to change it. Don't whine after it's been done and feel good about yourself because you 'spoke up' in an anonymous newspaper forum.

They are placing them next to Sheckler so they are in town and not out of town at that "ugly" facility with sufficient parking, spacious classrooms, air-conditioned rooms, playing fields, and an outstanding setting high on top of the hill overlooking Fuller's Farms. Besides, there is plenty of space there for the future (40 years) when the Lehigh Valley international Airport decides to put in a pararell runway to fly all the lehigh VAlley people to far away places such as the Bahamas, Europe, and Asia. If they add that runway, that would make LVIA equal in number of runways with Newark who currently have 2 plus a small one that is used infrequently.

Where would you have placed the new Catasauqua High School?-- on Front street in the old Fuller Industries property. Hey but at least it is in Catty.

Move to Northampton. Taxes going up there too. They are building a new Middle School and renovating just about every building they own. Keep the economy going.

I don't know, for such a small town, more stupid crap goes on here...council has their heads up their butts, at least 3 out of 7 anyway...school board should be arrested for mismanagement...there are more signs on our roads than can be seen on 22...can't wait to pay off my house and move. And yes, I go to the meetings and voice my opinion...so don't even go there.
I'm fed up. Make any comment you desire regarding my opinion, it matter not...just like my opinion matter not when it's expressed in the appropriate forum.
