Did you read the article?
"The next day, Dr. Saralee Funke, a forensic pathologist, did an autopsy and found numerous injuries. Funke ruled that the cause of death was drowning under suspicious circumstances and said the scratches and bruises could have been caused by the boy wiggling and squirming as his head was held under water until he drowned."
Yea, I read it, it said COULD have been caused by, not WAS caused by.

How is it possible she could get a minimum of 10 years for killing a five-year-old? Drowning the child. Not just being negligent and leaving the bathroom while the kid slipped and fell but holding the kid's head under water for, how long? I've read everything from 15 seconds to two minutes. That takes more than just a momentary anger which compels you to hit a person in the head or push them down the steps.
She may be extremely remorseful now but who gives a crap?
The same way a man get "7 yrs" for decapitating his wife with 2 butcher knives & leaving her in a pool of her own blood for one of her grown children to find & then giving himself a few superficial cuts & trying to say it was self defense. PLEA bargaining sould not be allowed in certin cases.
This woman should be allowed out of jail when that poor 5 year old child gets up out of his grave & runs to his father for a hug.

COULD have been or WAS, does it really matter? She killed the child & 10 years is not nearly enough time for her to spend in jail

I say hold her head under water and let her feel what that innocent child felt, pull her head out, and do it again over and over again then throw her in jail for life!!! Then every so often pull her out of her cell and do it again to remind her of what he went through! Burn in h-ll!
I agree 100%! Let the punishment fit the crime!

She should be dead! She killed an innocent child! Poor baby had no clue and was helpless. I hope they kill her in prison.

Are you kidding? She pled guilty. She admitted to drowning the kid. The kid's head had to be under water to drown. No, no one was there filming this so the forensic pathologist has to use the "could"* because he cannot say "I was there and she did it." In conjunction with the plea, no tortured semantics required. She drowned the kid. No excuses or hairsplitting for this woman.

*Could - grammatically a helping verb indicating possibility, probability, and necessity and joined with the main verb of the sentence or clause.
