Please read...its a pretty good story. So back in the early summer my family and I were getting ready to go for a bike ride. We live on an alley, and have a garage across from our house. I had pulled the truck around and loaded the bikes in the back. The truck was pulled off onto the small driveway and had no wheels touching the street.

We had to take the front wheels off to fit all three bikes in the bed of the truck. My dad opened the side door to the truck and went up on the porch to get the wheels which were still in the house. As soon as he got in we heard a truck pull up out front. My dad put the wheels down and went out front.

There was a utility box truck (the van kind with a large "box" with storage compartments on the side) trying to squeeze though the sidewalk and truck door. My dad yelled "Hey, hey wait up. I will close that for you." And with that the truck took off taking the door with him.

So, here we are left with a truck with its drivers door hanging off. My dad ran after the truck yelling to stop and luckily got the license plate number.

We called the cops and filed a report. The plate was run and found to be registered to someone who lives right down the street. We tryed to contact the household but, we were told by people next door that they went on vacation for the month.

To make an already long story short, we heard nothing after that initial day and every time we inquired about it the cops said there was nothing they could do or gave some crappy answer and would do nothing. About a month later we got a court summons in the mail; Commonwealth vs. hit and run driver. We knew nothing of this but just took it in stride and expected to go the the court date.

Fast forward. I am at college and had to take a day off and miss class for court. We get there and we both tell our sides. The defendant stated he had no idea and was NEVER contacted by anyone. The judge mentioned he had nothing and that what needed to get done didn't get done. We lost the case and are out $4000 for the repair even though we both saw it happen and got a license plate number and had pictures of white paint on out truck. Fishy?

Well afterward the judge wanted to talk to the cop alone. We went out to our car to go home obviously mad and flabbergasted and the cop chased us down in the parking lot. He said: "Hey I'm really sorry about that. It was my first day and I never talked to the other cop you talked too. I am a part time officer so I really don't know. Im not there that often so, yah. Im really sorry about that. My hunch. He didn't write anything up in the police report. The judge said he didn't have make, model, color, plate number, or anything in the report.

We lost on a technicality. How messed up is that? As the defendant walked out laughing.
