Brunswick County, N.C.: Smithville to see bond referendum
“The intent is not to hurt the hospital”
Smithville Township residents will get a chance in November to vote on creating a variable tax rate for a special levy for Dosher Memorial Hospital.
Brunswick commissioners Monday night approved a bond question for the fall ballot that would provide up to 4 cents per $100 valuation annually to pay off a $13 million bond voters approved six years ago and to give the hospital money for 'reasonable maintenance expenses.'
That would extend to possible subsidies for operating costs if required to keep the hospital open, commissioners Bill Sue and Phil Norris said after the county board meeting. Read more
