Why does it cost so much to register a child with m.v.b.a.? Why do many of the coaches have the same last name? Why is it at the end of the season the coaches pick their own children only for all stars? Why is it the association tolerates unruly coaches that insult the players and parents? Should I name names? Why do the baseball fields stink compared to other surrounding towns. Other surrounding towns only charge about half of what m.v.b.a charges to register. Most team coaches even before the first practice put their own kids in certain positions and never trying out other players even when asked. Respectfully weigh in please thanks is nepotism, favoritism, cronyism, racism, biased toward others that do not have a so called old last name from castroville

Why do some people throw stones instead of coaching, volunteering, and being part of the organization. MVYBA is not perfect, but it a well run organization that produces quality athletes and citizens.

Got the time, energy, and focus to make it a better organization, then by all means volunteer. They can always use more hands.

That's the way the majority of Castroville is. Favoritism based solely on their last name.

Have you ever considered that the reason you see Tschirharts, Steins, Habys, Kellers, and Groffs at MVYBA is because its a family tradition? These volunteers are in second and third generation volunteers at MVYBA. In essence, MVYBA would not exist if not for these folks.

IT'S ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT AND NEVER GONNA CHANGE THE BIPPERTS AND EVERYONE ELSE WIYH THE LAST NAME ARE ALWAYS GONNA BE IN ALLSTARS EVEN THOUGH THERE NO GOOD ALOT OF TALATED KIDS OUT THERE BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE LAST NAME SO THAT'S WHY THEY PLAY SELECT BASEBALL UNTIL ALL THAT LAST NAME BULLSHIT CHANGES OR YOUR A COACHES SON THEY WILL LOSE A LOT OF GOOD PLAYERS....

I don't believe any good players have been lost to select. The good players are still there. To play select you just need a check book. The name thing is just a cop out. An excuse for your daughter or son to not work hard and get better. Just blame it on the last name. My son and daughter dont have any of the last names mentioned above and have always been given a fair shot.

Sad but it's the same everywhere you go. My kid played in MV a couple of years ago and was coached by someone with one those names you listed. MVBA coaches were fair to us and didn't see any favoritism other than playing their kids on the top order. Then we move around and have seen the WORST cases favoritism... From all coaches kids playing infield and batting top of the order and never sitting down. I always thought my son that to work twice as hard than coaches kids if he wanted to play and it has worked and so far. Once, After I saw my son been used for nothing but running bases, I approach a the team head coach (manager) and asked him to give my son a try at a certain position and told him that he batted 0.900 the last 2yrs and was probably 10 times better that who he had on that position he said that was his son and that "he had to play there!". We also did select and is the same "all coaches kids" (my son is infield but plays twice as hard) play infield and the rest pay $20 per tournament to be just a support player (utility players). So now we're back to our local youth program...
Over all my BEST experience thus far has been at Medina Valley Baseball.

ok lets see what happens this will be my sons first year to try out here in Castroville and he is good. If he don't make the team then i will believe last names might have alot to do with it.

If it is going to be your first year at mvyba how do you know if not having the correct last name will be the reason your child does not make the first team. Perhaps you should wait to see all of the kids play first.

I think MVYBA is a good organization with lots of great volunteers. The process in wich they pick the Allstar Team is VERY poor!!! The kids they put on the team is based on the voting by the head coaches for that season. They do not even look at the kids stats and dedication. Every year there are more coaches and board members kids on the team than others. It is very sad for the kids that are average athletes but try hard, play well and show up to all games and practices. If thier parent can not coach or be on the board then they have no change at all stars.

Wow reading these posts, i see a lot of truths. I was raised in this town and played ball on those same fields that my children do now. And unfortunately it has always been who you are and who you know. I have tried to get involved out there but when you diagree with the way things are run you can easily get black balled and so does your kids. I have seen it happen to many families over the years. This town and many of its traditional families who have never left this bubble and seen the outside world, still in the same clicks from high school look down at other people thinking they are better than everyone else. No one is perfect and we all have our SKELETONS that we try and keep hidden hoping no one sees. Things need to change accept it. Those people that have been on that board and coached have run off many families cause they challenged and questioned about how they run things. Kids should be put on all stars based on how they play not who they are and my Aunt or Uncle is coaching so those nieces and nephews are automatically on the team. Things really do need to change this is supposed to be for our kids not your status in the community. Learn from our mistakes don't keep making them over and over again...

The last name thing and social rank is a bunch of BS. I grew up playing ball out there. I moved here from an outside town and played my ass off every year and made Allstars every year. If your kid doesn't make it it's probably because he or she just isn't that good... Have you ever thought of that? I know many who's kids play there and make all stars and those kids are usually the good ones... Quit crying about it. Of you want your kids to be the best the. Get off your asses and go outside and throw to them, hit to them, take them to the batting cages. Maybe then you'll see the difference and shut up!

Can you honestly say in all those years you played looking back and even now if you have kids playing you never saw kids that should have been on all stars! Come on man, you can't be serious! I noticed you didn't mention that!

Yes ,its true all the names you only mainly see every year are: Tschirharts, Steins, Habys, Kellers, Mangolds, and Groffs is because they choose they're family, they're past great athletes relatives, they know they are good, hell basically everyone in Castroville is related, but yet they all treat each player the same wither its the giving names above,or if the last name is Flores,Rodriguez,Luna,Torres etc. They are all treated equally. The coaches are amazin coaches and make yalls children the best athletes they can be:)

Yet none of you from
The comments TJAB and down have anything to say about knowing there are kids who deserve to be on all stars and don't get picked and there are kids who shouldnt be on there that are picked! that is what needs to change.
