CPD is real small time as in Mayberry RFD small time. Everyone there thinks they are a part of a secret SWAT team with each person loaded down with 50 pounds of gear each. They are a real big joke.

The police department seriously oversteps their boundaries of right and wrong. I encourage all who read this to research their 1st, 4th, and 6th amendment rights and file complaints with the appropriate agency. FBI has the job of investigating public corruption, call and file a complaint witht the San Antonio field office they a have agents available 24/7 to answer if you have proof or at least leads, but, simultaneously file complaints with Chief McVay, that will hold him accountable. ACLU and LULAC can also provide advice and perhaps put pressure on the Castroville City Council to act.

Sounds like a castroville police officer is reading the comments. GOOD! Maybe they'll realize that taking a phone from someone and looking through their text messages during routine traffic stops is abuse of the 4th Amendment. A person has the right to feel secure in their house, person, effects and papers to include electronic correspondence. Search and seizure only applies when there is probable cause that a crime is being committed. Probable cause is when a "reasonable person when considering the totallity of circumstances determines a crime has been, is being, or will be committed.

Passed through this town recently on my way to Uvalde. Got pulled over for failure to signal 100ft before. What BS! Talked to some cop friends of mine here in Dallas and they said they would never be such an a$$h0le. Guess this is just another little town with nothing better to do than harass people.

how come no one ever discusses how Castroville has the lowest victim crime rate in medina county (property crimes, crimes against people), but yet has the highest number of arrests? or that you never hear about how corrupt they police are on the news, in the newspaper, etc. only on topix? which is obviously the best and most accurate media source out their right? I mean I'm assuming that those posting on here have been attending city council meetings, meeting with the chief to discuss their concerns, requesting open record checks on the stats of Castrovilles crime rate compared to other local cities, or keeping up to date on current case law involving the searching of cell phones and other electronic devices (either through consent to search given by owner/possessor or through search incident to arrest), etc. I mean that would be a rational assumption right? or just taking advise from "glad I was able to resign in lieu of termination" who is so forth coming that he was willing to give information of who he is and why "he left". or is this just a means of griping and moaning behind a keyboard instead of actually putting pen to paper or feet to the pavement to correct these horrendous injustices? like my name says, just curios....

I got a ticket for no insurance, yet I gave the officer my insurance. He stated that I had to give him the insurance for the car (which is owned by my friend), not for me. When I went to hand him the insurance for the car, he said he didn't have time to look at another insurance card. Officer #305, Chris Teague. He says I have to go in and give them a copy in person... yet, I live 2-3 hrs away. He obviously didn't care.

Also, he ran the stop sign, without his lights on, after doing a U-turn and behind me. He pulled me over for not having a front plate, and my plate flapping... It's a temporary from the dealer. He also gave me a ticket for running a stop sign, which he ran, not me.

Ridiculous town, no wonder no one likes doing business in that town.

That town can go out of business as far as I'm concerned.

I'm an Engineering/Business consultant, from Austin, TX.

Turns out Chad Hutcheson (lietenant) is Chris Teagues supervisor. I've been referred to speak to the chief of police, McVay.
I talked to Debbie at the the municipal court, and she is going to help me in getting the no insurance dropped. As for the no stop sign, I'm going to pay $108 for court costs, and then take defensive driving (since I haven't had a ticket in about 5 years). I prefer to take the easiest way out.$108 is cheaper than hiring an attorney, which I will have to do next time.
Speaking to McVay is to let him know that I will continue to not recommend doing business in Castroville as is the standard among business consultants/owners/people. I advice everyone to do the same. Do business elsewhere, even if you live there.

I spoke to Chief McVay, and he stated that if I had the insurance card, then it's "not appropriate" for Officer Teague to give me a ticket because he "didn't have time to look at another insurance card." He also stated that he is going to look at whatever video Officer Teague has of the traffic stop. If the video shows that I fully stopped, then he will let me know. If it doesn't have any coverage of the stop sign, he will also let me know.

Chief McVay also stated "He can roll through the stop sign. Fortunately, for us, and I'm not saying it's the right thing to do all the time, but you know, when we're trying to apprehend or trying to stop somebody else, all the other rules, all the other laws, don't apply, you know, we can go through the stop sign, we can accelerate over the speed limit, we can make a U-turn, I mean you know we can do all that, you know it's kind of a conflict, but it's really not, because we can do that in order to catch the other person that's doing the violation, so you know if we could never go over the speed limit and someones already speeding you could never catch them, if we couldn't turn around to go after and catch somebody for speeding or something else and we had to do the same speed limit you'd never catch anybody. so, not saying that it's a good practice, and everything else, so long as they can do it safely. He's not going to get in trouble for blowing through the stop sign or something like that. I can tell you that."

I was driving through Castroville last week and I stopped on the side of the road and enjoyed what seemed like 5 minutes of nonstop soothing urination. I must have drank a lot of beer. Well, no one saw me and I got away with it. CPD is never around when you need them.

Why are people SOOO pissed off about routine traffic stops? Every city has them. 90% of drivers break a law every day. People should appreciate the low crime rate and safe community that Castroville PD keeps. What people should be talking about is: why is the high school full of sluts and douche bags?

I drove through yesterday, and the same thing happened. I was tailgated by a patrol car.

Prior to him tailgating me, I had my eyes peeled for any suspicious activity. There was a truck beside me, and two cars in front of me. There was no vehicles behind me, as I was going EXACTLY the speed limit, while cars were passing me, after leaving a stop light. I was extra extra extra cautious for any suspicious activity from other vehicles while obeying the laws myself. Then, out of the blue there is a car speeding coming closer and closer to the group of cars. The car continues closer and closer until he is right on my bumper, tailgating me. Immediately after noticing the tailgater, I signaled, turned a corner, and then the patrol car discontinued tailgating and went through the intersection. Yes, it was a patrol car.

Once I made the turn, I went down, pulled over, signaled for a U-turn, made the U-turn, and then continued back to the direction I was headed through town. It was 9pm, Tuesday, 7/11/11, eastbound, last night. If the officer is on here, glad to show your suspicious activity. Next time, I'll have a camera mounted.

I don't understand what these patrol officers expect from people. Do you expect us to drive around your town somehow? Do you expect us to somehow never visit the towns beyond you, on either side of you? Do you expect to herass any and all visitors with a dealer plate? So, if I buy a new car, you don't want my business? That's what your actions are telling us. I drive through your town every 1-2 weeks. I'll be sure and use a dealer plate every time, and video every time as well. I'll also be sure and change cars every time. Enjoy being on camera. It really isn't hard to expose this suspicious activity.

Woah woah, so because he was behind you, he was tailgating you? Maybe he was just driving fast, and you slowed him down. If he was tailgating you he would have made that turn just as you did. Now it simply seems you have it out for the CPD. According to your post, I see no suspicious activity taking place. Just saying.
