howed he was caught by border patrol while attempting to cross back into California after a 2001 visit to Mexico.

That history allowed ICE to deport him immediately. Now his American family is trying to start over in Zacatecas, Mexico.

Good for them- they are now home.

"But it is not only hardened criminals who are impacted by the program. ICE records show that Secure Communities is deporting immigrants accused of minor offenses as well as those who have only violated immigration laws—such as overstaying a visa, ignoring a deportation order or returning to the U.S. after being deported."

Minor? Ignoring a deportation order and returning after deportation?

Aren't we simply enforcing the deportation in the first place? By the time they get to this point they are serial violators.

And what was the "minor" issue that cause the deportations to begin with?

Mayorga recounts by phone in Spanglish....

Mayorga had lived in Castroville for more than a decade and worked in construction without papers.

We have enough of our own home-grown "minor" offenders (drunks, people driving without licenses, thieves, identity theives, etc). We do not need to import them from other countries. Minor crime, serious crime, violent crime, they're all the same to me. Send them back!

Opponents of the Secure Communities Program are really grasping at straws to resist having the program rolled out nationwide.

If through the normal course of police work at the station, police happen to learn that somebody is here illegally, it's a no brainer that the person should be reported to ICE. I can't believe anyone would advocate that the Police or the Feds should turn a blind eye to it.
