Stay away from Detroit ave, Meadow Ln , Virginia Ln all off Monument Blvd.
There's some newer high end apts near the Brendan Theatre off Willow Pass and Galindo. Also check out the Park Regency apts in Walnut Creek and the Apartments at the corner of Oak Grove & Treat Blvd. Pleasant Hill off the Chilpancingo pkwy streets Cmaelback / Scottsdale Rd aren't too bad either. Also there's a bunch at the Figtree Ln & Arnold Drive area in Martinez.

Avoid Concord if you can. Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek are safer communities.

Welcome Relocating,
A little more information about you & your family. Would help us to understand more about your situation. Some complexes would be a single man's dream and a nightmare for kids...
Do you have kids? what ages?, your age? Where would you be working?
In this area we are all within a single school district, but there is big differences in schools.
I live in the Oak Grove & Treat Blvd, It's a great area to live. We have two of the best elementary schools in the area. But the middle school (6th, 7th, 8th) is not good.

If I lived off Solano and Grant, I would have moved to Kentucky too.

There are many good areas of Concord. Sure they are "bad areas" but they are all over just about every city. You just have to have a little common sense about where you go.

The "Mexican Gang" problem is not wide spread. Just don't be stupid about what is going on around you. Sure South of Detroit Ave.(One Gang hood) North of Meadow Lane.(The Other Gang). Hanging around Sunshine Drive between Meadow and Detroit, Your likely to see some Cop's type action.

There is just two of us moving, we are both in our twenties. Really, the issue is just not being killed lol these forums make Concord and the surrounding cities seem horrible. But there has to be less horrible areas and that is what I need to know. I think the above suggestions are a great help for me to start looking. Right now the only other apartments I will probably apply to are the Twin Creek Apts. in Antioch...

Thanks all

Hello Relocating,
Thanks to our friend from Russellville, KY. This couple are now moving to Antioch to be safer!!!!Yikes...
I would suggest that you not put any weight in the comments in this forum. I'm happy living in Concord. I chose to raise my kids here, It is a nicer area of Concord on the Walnut Creek border.
Come and look around. Antioch has more than its share of problems and it takes 40 minutes to down hiway 4 during rush hour (3:30 - 6:30)
There are plenty of extended stay hotels that you could stay in for 30 days or less while you shop the area.
I hope that you don't sign any long term leases before you know all the factors. Traffic is also a consideration, 60 minutes commutes (each way) are common in the bay area.
Because of the number units available the vacancy turn over is rate high in this area. You could certainly find an apt. and sign and move-in on the same weekend.
Come look before you commit...

Thanks, I agree. I am def. not basing all my searching on these forums, just getting some friendly advice. I do have family in the area who are checking out our apartments for us because we are not able to get to the area before our move. And I have spend time in Antioch/Concord before and didn't notice anything horrible - I'm just trying to get a feel for what people consider safe neighborhoods. I am aware of Southern Antioch being okay so the Twin Creek apts. on James Donlon Blvd. and now Palm Lake apts in concord are my top 2.

Palm Lake apts are a couple of blocks from where I live. It is a good area of Concord, on the Walnut Creek Border.

I grew up a mile from here, about 30 years ago and chose to move back after my kids were born.

Palm lake is right on the "Iron Horse Trail" a great network of walking, bike and running trails (paved) that cross most of the area. It's nice option, no cars to fight, while exercising.

The North Entrance to Mt. Diablo is two miles down the the road.

Correction. The Iron Horse Trail is the Main Trail than runs from Pleasanton to Martinez.
Palm Lake Apts are next to one of the many spin-off trails that criss cross Concord, Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill.
At the intersection of Treat and Oak Grove.

Where are you getting your lists from. Some of the large problem plagued complexes are owned by large corporations, and have great looking marketing material.

This rental market is really listed on Craigslist. Most have a map link.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/apa/eby...

I will mention the bad parts of town are not a place you would want to live. But I feel safe just about anywhere in this city. The term "Mexican Gangs" might give the image of this:

http://www.prisonplanet.com/images/january200...

This is not South East LA. The reality is the gang problem is a much younger groups. The gang problem generally consist of 13-18 years old mexican's fighting with other 13-18 year old Mexicans. I shop everyday in good and bad areas without problems.

Can you send me a contact email or a IM name. We could save each other a lot of time.
