I'm a waitress and several people seem to think they're not supposed to tip when we serve them. Just so everyone knows, minimum wage for waitresses, at least in Virginia, is $2.13 an hour. We rely on the tips to make up for the lower wages. Where I work if we don't make a certain amount of tips per week, we get a write-up. Three write-ups of the same offense means termination. People, if you have an attentive, polite waitress, tip them 15-20%! If you can't afford to tip, don't go out to eat! Pizza place, mexican restaurant, Huddle House, anywhere!

i tip everywhere i go, unless my service was bad. if i had a bad waitress then im not tipping. but all waitresses knows that when they get the job they have to rely on tips, and that many people dont tip, maybe try a different occupation instead of complaining on topix?

also, i dont tip 15 percent, but i do leave at least 5 dollars when i go. its better then nothing, and i can spend my money on food if i want to, and not have to tip. its not a law.

Some years back some friends and I went deep sea fishing out of Port Canaveral Florida. Since we had some time to kill we went to get a bite to eat, there were six of us. The waitress, you could tell she was tired and it was about seven in the morning, walked over, took one look at the motley crew sitting there and asked with a tired smile, "What the fuk do ya'll want?" She was probably the best waitress I've ever had. She was attentive, we never ran out of coffee and the food was great. We tipped her five bucks each and left with a smile on our faces.

I agree with the other poster. It isnt a law that a patron has to leave a tip.If you are not getting tips then your attitude probably isnt a good one,and your service could use improvement. If you are working at the huddle house, then i would bet you dont deserve a tip.The majority of those employees are horrible!!A good waitress always gets a tip.So instead of complaining on topix you should reevaluate your attitude towards customers or change jobs.If you cannot manage to be friendly on a daily basis.

I know it takes some time to get food at places around here, I judge a tip on my drink, if it takes extra time for the order you can keep the drinks full and smile! If I run out of drink your tip is shot!

I realize that it's not a law to leave a tip, but it's common courtesy. I make sure to always smile and be polite not only at work, but in person too. Especially at work though. What inspired me to start this post was when I read a question on yahoo answers asking if they were even supposed to tip at pizza hut and a lot of people said no. And even if you don't do 15-20%, you should at least leave a dollar per person.

Im with everyone ealse I will tip IF and only IF the waitress does her job. If you want a tip you had better get on the ball.. I use to waitress back when I was in collage and I did my best to make people happy. And I always got awesome tips. So if you arent getting good tips its probable because you havent did your job.

People, I'm not a grumpy waitress so stop blaming it on my attitude. I always smile and I'm constantly refilling drinks. I work hard and stay friendly. If there was a problem with the service, then I don't expect a tip. But if I feel everything has gone smoothly then don't get a tip, I'm mad. I've been at my job a long time, and sadly, I'm making more tips than most of the others. It's you stiff hillbillies who act like you don't know the most basic etiquette ever: tipping at a restaurant!

there's a reason minimum wage for waitresses is so low. because people are expected to tip! I'm sure even the ones of you who are saying you only tip if they deserve it still don't tip well.$5 is plenty. but if you're bringing 10 people in, leave a dollar each.

Im pretty sure calling people "hillbillies" isnt a sign of having a good attitude. For two,if you live and work in this town your just as country as anybody else around here!Being condescending and calling people names isnt good form for a waitress or anyone working with the public.Seeing what all you have written,i sense an attitude.I think a change in job would do you some good. You obviously need more money than the wages of a waitress.

I don't live in that redneck place anymore but I can tell you, because I have waited tables out there, that a lot of people do not leave a tip and it doesn't matter if their service is the best they can get. They do not know proper etiquette nor do they have any couth. And probably do not know the meaning of those two words. But the ones who do leave a tip, you can bank on it every single time they come.

Lol I don't have a bad attitude people. I'm a good waitress. I'm also far from a hillbilly. I'm not at work right now either; I'm being anonymous and complaining. Of course I'm going to sound like I have a bad attitude when I'm complaining.

I always tip when I eat in a restaurant, unless the waitress ignores me by not refilling my drink or if the food or service was crappy. But we aint talking a fine eatery here in this area people, What we have here is choke and pukes where the burgers are made from mystery meat, burnt on the outside and raw in the middle and dried out like a f$$king hockey puck. Breakfast isnt much better. And another thing, a couple people goes inside at one of these places and eats this lousey crap without puking, looks like that would be tip enough for you guys and then we get the bad news that this stuff we gobbled down is gona cost more than 20 bucks, with tip and all about 25 bucks. And in a couple hours it will just come spewing out our a$$. Now Im not sure if you guys realize this or not but this aint NEW YORK F$$KING CITY. This is podunk USA where most people are struggling to make ends meet and survive. As I said I always tip,but some of you people suggest giving 5 bucks tip. I think that is a little much for this kind of food in this place. 2 or 3 bucks should be fine. And im sorry that the owners dont pay you more than they do,but they are the ones that should be coughing up more money not the customers. You know same as I do they are the ones making a damn killing here,so why do it at your expence or mine either? Tell the owners more money or they can f$$k off.

Every time I go to huddle house all the lazy ass workers are outside smoking. They do not do their job and they have no idea what is going on. I went there the other day and had called in an order 20 minutes prior, when I got there all the workers were outside smoking and 1 girl was working her butt off cooking. They didn't have my order ready and acted as if they had forgotten it. When I finally did get my order they forgot my drinks and I had to remind them. When I got to the car the drinks were not what I ordered and there was no ketchup in the bag. I would NEVER leave a tip at a place like this! There were atleast 5 people working and only 1 of them was actually Working. Oh and I had to wait about 5 min before anyone even asked me if they could help me when I got there. So if you work at huddle house and expect a tip then I suggest you get to work and do something to deserve a tip!

huddle house is awful! i have eat there one time and that was my last time since the place opened up. there was a dark haired girl working and she was so rude...and she literally ignored us all night...even when i would walk up to the counter. huddle house needs to have better workers in there, or they are going to lose business...i love eating huddle house, but i would go to abingdon and eat before going back there. it was awful. the food was good, they messed up on my order, but i didnt get mad about that, but she got mad at me for having to fix it.

You're absolutely right, you can spend your money where you very well please. So take your five dollars and give it to your waitress before you order your food, and see what type of service you get. People think it's a joke or not that serious when you don't tip a server. But that income is someone's lively hood. Just like if your boss wasm't paying you, you would be ticked off as well. When someone provides a service for you, that you could have done for yourself, then you tip them!!
