How about some math $360,000,000 cut from our 2010/11 budget.$500,000,000 -$1,200,000,000 (that's 1.2 BILLION) per year on illegal children. Yet DPS wants us to boycott Arizona. I'm so glad teachers will now be held responsible for their student's performance. Maybe NOW they will stop supporting illegals.

"...so the cost of educating children of illegal aliens in Colorado public schools is unknown but somewhere between $500 million and $1.2 billion per year..."

http://www.usillegalaliens.com/impacts_of_ill...

A very high percentage of illegal aliens' children do not speak English. In the 2004/5 school year in Colorado, 114,857 students, almost 15% of the state's K-12 public school student population, were English language learners. The state does not ask about citizenship, so the cost of educating children of illegal aliens in Colorado public schools is unknown but somewhere between $500 million and $1.2 billion per year, depending on whose numbers you want to use for the number of children of illegal aliens that are in school. Thus, in Colorado, just the education costs for the children of illegal aliens is somewhere between $270 and $650 per household, an amount that would buy a lot of lettuce, even at twice the cost per head.

We want our children to go to school and get an education. Where's all these tax dollars going? Lotto monies that are supposed to be going towards our schools?? What if the family (that doesn't get free and reduced lunch) can't afford to pay everyday to ride the bus? These children lose out on an education??? This just makes me sick! Hope the drop out rate doesn't go up! No child left behind?? What happened to that??

Good questions! So, does it mean if a kid can't pay and his parents work or whatever, and can't get him there, he won't get to go to school?

Actually, it will probably be like the free lunch program. They are humiliated by filling out a voucher and asking for a "handout".

Nothing is "free". Somebody has to pay for it. What I thought was interesting was that free lunch kids still get to ride free. More rewards for having children you can't afford at the expense of others. If we didn't have these same people sucking at the State budget for Medicaid- 600,000 of them @$2,700 p/person p/month, more than 3 BILLION $$$$'s, 30% of the state's annual budget, we could give more money to schools to get hard-working citizen's kids to school without breaking their bank. EVERYONE should have SOME investment in our society, even if it is a little bit.
I agree with you 100%! This is a bunch of horse crap. They keep on getting free rides in every aspect. Grrrrrrr

I see nothing wrong with this, this way the people that are using it are paying. Too many times school levies get voted down, and that is because not everyone has kids. Another idea would be to sell advertising space on these busses.

We got tired of the constant raises in income, and property taxes. We got tired of schools paying $5.00 for a bottle of ketchup,$500.00 for a toilet, so on and so forth. We got tired of seeing school teachers not getting promised raises, and programs such as ROTC getting cut, while over paid school administrators were out buying $400,000.00 homes. The list goes on.

I feel sorry for the parents who live on the fringes of the school bus serviced routes and who are just barely keeping their heads above water financially. Statistically some of them are bound to have their children hit by rush hour drivers while walking to school in the dark every before daylight savings time ends.

Its Douglas county, have you seen the buses? They already have advertisements on them. Many people have complained about the fee. I am not upset about the fee. I have a child in the school district, my complaint is that they do not spend the money on the right things. This money isn't going to fix the district. Its not going to lower the number of kids per class. The system is broke. It doesn't matter how many levies that are placed for the school district. It will find ways to spend that money on anything but where it is really needed. Yes they are charging 50 cents each way for busing, but why does the county need to spend over 600 thousand dollars to implement this system?? Does Douglas county really need those GPS systems. Isn't there a more cost effective way to track who is riding the bus? The GPS systems are just one of many ways the school district waste money. FOCUS on educating instead of being the most technologically advanced. Personally I am thinking that carter schools are starting to look good. If I have to drive anyway, why keep my kid in a public school that will have over 40 kids in the class room next year?

Glad Apple Pies caught this atrocity also.

So Douglas Country district says they must charge per child to ride the bus ON TOP OF THE TAXES EVERYONE INCLUDING THOSE WITHOUT CHILDRUN PAY, in order to balance the budget.

Out of the same mouth the next blunder - AND WE NEED TO PURCHASE GPS TO TRACK THIS-
A $660,000 GPS system will be installed on the buses to track students' school bus usage. Each student will have a card that they'll use every time they get on a bus

More liberal spending and new taxes charged to cover it by the few left working class to pay them.

Dump the GPS and drop the charge for bus service, the over taxed public already pays for this...

So a family of 4 or 5 kids would make better since to just drive them yourselves, burning all that fuel gets spilled in the Gulf, and emitting carbon so we can pass Crap and Tax for Obama, then by gosh we can shut down the remaining private business and have our tax based workforce made up of strictly government workers, like Red China was.

There is no reason for this to be set into motion, when a levy tax for families that have children in school could easily cover these requirements. The precedent this implies is ridiculous.........Equal and fair treatment under the tax laws would be more acceptable in any case....When your talking one or 5 children in school you're not burning anymore fuel to get them there ,you're charging people with multiple children in school more simply because they have more children.....Where is that fair..???? This is literally between 2 and 5 hundred dollars a year ...!!!!!
Simply Ludicrous....

Another great example of our government supporting special interest groups based upon social class.
What is supplied to one is not supplied to all! Some pay and some do not! Everyone is a constituents across the board. We all should pay the same as the next human, regardless of color, race or creed! Redistribution of your money to give to another, this is not a government function, that is a charity function. Enough of this left liberal thinking!
Wake up people, Vote out these politicians and the framers of these type policies.

lay off the rush, conehead.

republicans redistribute income too...they just do it in the other direction...towards the top 2% instead of to a larger swath of society.

I think there are obviously some holes in this proposal...but the idea is sound and unfortunately necessary as our country continues to climb out of the hole in which we find ourselves after too many folks fell asleep at the wheel during the first decade of this new century.

Let's hope that the voters' memories are a little longer next time....
