<quoted text>ask your sister and your brother in law when they break even. 100 years? Stupid investment. But they make you feel good....Just read the story about the solar panels installed on the roof of the Duke Energy Convention Center downtown. Saving $10,000 a year on electricity costs for that facility, on the surface, seems to be a great deal! Then when you read further, the costs in grants – read tax money – were $400,000! At the rate of savings –$10,000 a year – that is a return on investment of 40 years! What private company would invest for that far out in the future? If they did and the stockholders found out, they would lose their jobs. Even if electricity doubles in cost over the next 10 years, that means the return on investment is still far out in the future, beyond the 10-year mark. Tell me our government is not actually considering these solar panels as an alternative energy source? Fire them all!
people invest for the next hundred years....

this is what i mean about you guys on the right not having a very long perspective.

the thirty years that went by since I was in JHS went BY FAST!!

60 years is the blink of eye for a society.....

planning is crucial.

our competitors repowering is the BIGGEST threat as a component to this arguement.

I dont hear you defending the overall strategy of using oil for those 60years???

because it is going to GET really expensive according to ALL respectable analysts..

why would we be running OUR economy on oil when everybody has repowered???

at the very least, oil will cost what It does today(but probabaly more anyways, in 25 years)

this will still put the US at a HUGE disadvantage to its competitors.

what do you have to say about this issue....

it is much more important than whether the volt(or any electric cars) is viable(although it is)

what do you think??

btw: the solar panels paid themselves off after 5.5 years.

I think the free market will determine things, not obama. Everybody has what? "repowered"

that is exactly right??

that is why each of those alternative industry keeps growing each year.

people are chosing it more and more.

esp as it gets cheaper.

5700 watts of solar panels(the kind that last much longer than humans) is about 5 grand....the whole system is about 10 or 12 grand...

no ONE household uses that much power??

so you grid tie it and sell it back to the power company....

more and more power producers are buying power back from their customers...this is where Obama smart grid idea came in.......... using everybody's car battery as a national back up supply in case of massive outages.

our grid needs work, so massive outages happen with ordinary wwinter weather.

I would go further and have a federal rebate program(similar to the tax rebate for going solar) to inspire people to get back up batteries.....fork lift style if feasable.

Ps: i never said the process was anywhere near compleation, in fact it is in its infancy still.

but like any big new technological leap(like the car)

it will take some time to spread and become cheaper through mass production.

just the fact that solar panels have dropped in price so drastically

putting words in other people mouths is something EVERYbody should stay away from.

I dont agree with obama on all his foriegn policy moves??

but Libya is actaully a bit more of a sucess vs Iraq or afghanistan, which became quagmires with troops on the ground.

do you guys want more wars? or deficit reduction?? because you cant have both...

and Obama looks hesitant to go into syria, which is good, that would likely end up not so pretty for the west.

I think Obama's idea was to give a billion dollars to Solyndra, most of us would like to know where the money is now? and it was all about jobs, how many jobs does it create?

Are you saying the great hillary was not laughing at killing people? Really, you don't agree with all of them? lol...Libya is a success? HOW? By putting radical islamics in power. HOW BOUT the great arab spring and EGYPT? Or do u love the muslim brotherhood too? I don't think they were too happy with their party bragging over 21 times about killing bin laden and the great hill making an ass out of Libya. But the great jimmy carter started the whole mess.

they are all shucking off the yoke of american imperialism that you and Bushbama love so much.

hillary is a sly bitch....

I dunno much about soladra...

other than you repubs keep talking about it as a black hole..

Obama's mess?? eh??

I know that has NOTHING to do with the ever growing solar market....

that is fueled by people remember?? not the government.

our republican county(that is also full of hysterical tea baggers)

is actually trying to make the 299e corridor East of redding the "wind corridor" of the region.

good for them, I wish those republicans legislators luck with a rightious cause.

btw: I dont think of libya as a sucess, other than we didnt get bogged down, and there isnt an ongoing war.

weve had influence in ALL these coutries over the years, putting many of the people we are now getting rid of, in power in the first place......

and were still supporting BAD dictators in central asia (for oil, your favorite drink ,of course)

so bush's back up lie for invading iraq(after WMD was debunked)

was pretty transparent...he said we were spreading freedom!!

do you understand the problem with that??

and letting the muslim brotherhood rule libya was diffferent from letting IRan in to Iraq(by way of the Shia take over)how???

any intervention at all seems to fail over time

doesnt it???

mabey we should just repower america NOW and let the middle east's oil go. it has caused too many problems.

Jimmy Carter showed nothing when Iran took our hostages, he should have used the military then and stop the terrorists. Islamics only understand brute force, study your history. You applaud the arab spring? WTF...letting the muslim brotherhood take over, look at Egypt fool.

White House declines Netanyahu request to meet with Obama
The White House's response marks a new low in relations between Netanyahu and Obama, underscored by the fact that this is the first time Netanyahu will visit the U.S. as prime minister without meeting Obama; PM to meet with Clinton
The President's "schedule" won't allow him to meet with Mr. Netanyahu? I guess it's hard to give up all those fundraisers and campaign stops and actually do the job you were hired to do.
Meanwhile on 9/11: Cairo protesters scale U.S. Embassy wall, remove flag
But obama keeps giving them money.
The Embassy offered a wimpy apology for a little known youtube video and our freedom to speak and worship as we please. The Islamist mob attacked our Embassy and scrawled the words 'Bin Laden' over the doorway. The Democratic party mentioned Bin Laden's death 21 times at their convention.

Blame Obama for his State Department; we have NOTHING to apologize for.

my thoughts exactly(well not quite)

I guess it is a war....
although the demmy's wouldnt have you think that.

they are a bunch of liars when it comes to foriegn policy...

but then again so was Bush.

remember when they jumped up and down shouting about a smoking gun being a mushroom cloud??

and when they couldnt find any WMD, Bush proclaimed he was on a freedom mission in the region.(while oppressive regimes were fully supported by bush, to the north in uzbeckistan and kazackistan)

obviously only idiots believed him.....

same deal with Obama and the democrats.....

you cant trust ANYONE in power in washington to do the right thing overseas.....

we are after all, a very "oppressive" regime oursleves...

thus the bumbersticker that said....." regime change begins at home"

when it comes to these two parties and foriegn policy?

regime change doesnt really matter

read some chomsky.

many people dont know that you have to maintain the batteries...

which includes keeping them within certain parameters.

yet, I wonder why the solar market keeps expanding more and more each year?? must be armies of people out there who just want to throw away money.??

or why shasta(full of repubs) wants the 299e corridor to become the wind turbine corridor???

I guess alternative energy is just a passing hoax??

too bad for your pitch, reality doesnt resemble your arguement in the slightest.

but that is how most of the tripe from the far right comes off.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Aquarius

There simply aren't enough hours in the day today for you to do everything that's on your list, so concentrate on the priorities. Don't feel guilty about what's been left out and start to worry about it. This isn't an easy day because you're feeling pressured and anxious, so don't expect too much from yourself. There's less energy than usual, which doesn't help.
